[rv-3-7] • 11 श्लोकाः

प्र य आरुः शितिपृष्ठस्य धासेरा मातरा विविशुः सप्त वाणीः । परिक्षिता पितरा सं चरेते प्र सर्स्राते दीर्घमायुः प्रयक्षे ॥

pra ya āruḥ śitipṛṣṭhasya dhāserā mātarā viviśuḥ sapta vāṇīḥ | parikṣitā pitarā saṃ carete pra sarsrāte dīrghamāyuḥ prayakṣe ||

The (rays) of the blackbacked, all-sustaining (Agni) have arisen, and pervaded the parents (earth and heaven) and the flowing rivers; the surrounding parents co-operate with him, and bestow long life for the sake of assiduous worship.

दिवक्षसो धेनवो वृष्णो अश्वा देवीरा तस्थौ मधुमद्वहन्तीः । ऋतस्य त्वा सदसि क्षेमयन्तं पर्येका चरति वर्तनिं गौः ॥

divakṣaso dhenavo vṛṣṇo aśvā devīrā tasthau madhumadvahantīḥ | ṛtasya tvā sadasi kṣemayantaṃ paryekā carati vartaniṃ gauḥ ||

The sky-traversing steeds of the showerer (of benefits) are the kine (of Agni); as he attains the divine (rivers), bearers of sweet (water). One sacred soudn glorifies you (Agni), who are desirous of repose, pacifying your flames) in the abode of the water (the firmament).

आ सीमरोहत्सुयमा भवन्तीः पतिश्चिकित्वान्रयिविद्रयीणाम् । प्र नीलपृष्ठो अतसस्य धासेस्ता अवासयत्पुरुधप्रतीकः ॥

ā sīmarohatsuyamā bhavantīḥ patiścikitvānrayividrayīṇām | pra nīlapṛṣṭho atasasya dhāsestā avāsayatpurudhapratīkaḥ ||

Their lord has mounted on his well-trained mares the sagacious selector of treasures, the blackbacked, many-limbed (Agni) has granted them a plural ce of rest for the cherishing of (their) rapid speed.

महि त्वाष्ट्रमूर्जयन्तीरजुर्यं स्तभूयमानं वहतो वहन्ति । व्यङ्गेभिर्दिद्युतानः सधस्थ एकामिव रोदसी आ विवेश ॥

mahi tvāṣṭramūrjayantīrajuryaṃ stabhūyamānaṃ vahato vahanti | vyaṅgebhirdidyutānaḥ sadhastha ekāmiva rodasī ā viveśa ||

The flowing (rivers) invigorating him, bear along the great son of Tvaṣṭā, the undecaying upholder (of the world), radiant with various forms in the vicinity (of the firmament); Agni is associated with heaven and earth, as (a husband with) one only wife.

जानन्ति वृष्णो अरुषस्य शेवमुत ब्रध्नस्य शासने रणन्ति । दिवोरुचः सुरुचो रोचमाना इऴा येषां गण्या माहिना गीः ॥

jānanti vṛṣṇo aruṣasya śevamuta bradhnasya śāsane raṇanti | divorucaḥ suruco rocamānā iḻā yeṣāṃ gaṇyā māhinā gīḥ ||

Men comprehend the service of the uninjurable showerer (of benefits), and exult in the commands of the mighty (Agni); their frequent and earnest hymns of praise, bright and radiant, are illuminating heaven.

उतो पितृभ्यां प्रविदानु घोषं महो महद्भ्यामनयन्त शूषम् । उक्षा ह यत्र परि धानमक्तोरनु स्वं धाम जरितुर्ववक्ष ॥

uto pitṛbhyāṃ pravidānu ghoṣaṃ maho mahadbhyāmanayanta śūṣam | ukṣā ha yatra pari dhānamaktoranu svaṃ dhāma jariturvavakṣa ||

Verily (men) bring great delight to Agni by glorifying aloud the mighty parents (heaven and earth), when the shedder of rain approximates his own radiance to the worshipper, (wherewith) to invest the night.

अध्वर्युभिः पञ्चभिः सप्त विप्राः प्रियं रक्षन्ते निहितं पदं वेः । प्राञ्चो मदन्त्युक्षणो अजुर्या देवा देवानामनु हि व्रता गुः ॥

adhvaryubhiḥ pañcabhiḥ sapta viprāḥ priyaṃ rakṣante nihitaṃ padaṃ veḥ | prāñco madantyukṣaṇo ajuryā devā devānāmanu hi vratā guḥ ||

Seven sages with five ministering priests attend the station that is prepared for the rapid (Agni); the undecaying divine (sages), with their faces to the east, sprinkling (the libations), rejoice as they celebrate the worship of the gods.

दैव्या होतारा प्रथमा न्यृञ्जे सप्त पृक्षासः स्वधया मदन्ति । ऋतं शंसन्त ऋतमित्त आहुरनु व्रतं व्रतपा दीध्यानाः ॥

daivyā hotārā prathamā nyṛñje sapta pṛkṣāsaḥ svadhayā madanti | ṛtaṃ śaṃsanta ṛtamitta āhuranu vrataṃ vratapā dīdhyānāḥ ||

I propitiate the two first divine offerers of sacrifices; the seven (priests) rejoice with the libation; the illustrious celebrators of holy worship, reciting (his) praises, have called Agni the true (object) of every rite.

वृषायन्ते महे अत्याय पूर्वीर्वृष्णे चित्राय रश्मयः सुयामाः । देव होतर्मन्द्रतरश्चिकित्वान्महो देवान्रोदसी एह वक्षि ॥

vṛṣāyante mahe atyāya pūrvīrvṛṣṇe citrāya raśmayaḥ suyāmāḥ | deva hotarmandrataraścikitvānmaho devānrodasī eha vakṣi ||

Divine invoker of the gods, the vast and widespreading rays shed (moisture) for you, the mighty, the victorius, the wonderful, the showerer (of benefits); do you who are all knowing, joy-bestowing, bring hither the great gods, and heaven and earth.

पृक्षप्रयजो द्रविणः सुवाचः सुकेतव उषसो रेवदूषुः । उतो चिदग्ने महिना पृथिव्याः कृतं चिदेनः सं महे दशस्य ॥

pṛkṣaprayajo draviṇaḥ suvācaḥ suketava uṣaso revadūṣuḥ | uto cidagne mahinā pṛthivyāḥ kṛtaṃ cidenaḥ saṃ mahe daśasya ||

Ever-moving (Agni) may the mornings rise for us, abounding with oblations, with pious prayers, and with auspicious signs, and conferring wealth; and do you with the might of your (diffusive flame), consume all sin on behalf of your respectable (worshipper).

इऴामग्ने पुरुदंसं सनिं गोः शश्वत्तमं हवमानाय साध । स्यान्नः सूनुस्तनयो विजावाग्ने सा ते सुमतिर्भूत्वस्मे ॥

iḻāmagne purudaṃsaṃ saniṃ goḥ śaśvattamaṃ havamānāya sādha | syānnaḥ sūnustanayo vijāvāgne sā te sumatirbhūtvasme ||

Grant, Agni, to the offerer of the oblation, the earth, the bestower of cattle, the means of many (pious rites), such that it may be perpetual; may there be to us sons and grandsons, and may your good-will ever be upon us (productive of benefit to us).
