[rv-3-62] • 18 श्लोकाः

इमा उ वां भृमयो मन्यमाना युवावते न तुज्या अभूवन् । क्व त्यदिन्द्रावरुणा यशो वां येन स्मा सिनं भरथः सखिभ्यः ॥

imā u vāṃ bhṛmayo manyamānā yuvāvate na tujyā abhūvan | kva tyadindrāvaruṇā yaśo vāṃ yena smā sinaṃ bharathaḥ sakhibhyaḥ ||

Indra and Varuṇa, may these people who are relying upon you, and wandering about (in alarm), sustain no injury from a youthful (adversary); for where is that reputation (you enjoy) on account that you bestow sustenance on your friends.

अयमु वां पुरुतमो रयीयञ्छश्वत्तममवसे जोहवीति । सजोषाविन्द्रावरुणा मरुद्भिर्दिवा पृथिव्या शृणुतं हवं मे ॥

ayamu vāṃ purutamo rayīyañchaśvattamamavase johavīti | sajoṣāvindrāvaruṇā marudbhirdivā pṛthivyā śṛṇutaṃ havaṃ me ||

Most diligent (in pious rites) this (your worshipper), Indra and Varuṇa, desirous of wealth, incessantly invokes, you for protection; associated with the Maruts, with heaven and earth, hear my invocation.

अस्मे तदिन्द्रावरुणा वसु ष्यादस्मे रयिर्मरुतः सर्ववीरः । अस्मान्वरूत्रीः शरणैरवन्त्वस्मान्होत्रा भारती दक्षिणाभिः ॥

asme tadindrāvaruṇā vasu ṣyādasme rayirmarutaḥ sarvavīraḥ | asmānvarūtrīḥ śaraṇairavantvasmānhotrā bhāratī dakṣiṇābhiḥ ||

May there be to us, Indra and Varuṇa, such wealth (as we covet); may there be, Maruts, to us wealth( of cattle) and numerous descendants; may the delightful (wives of the gods) shelter us with dwellings; may Hotā and Bhāratī (enrich) us with gifts.

बृहस्पते जुषस्व नो हव्यानि विश्वदेव्य । रास्व रत्नानि दाशुषे ॥

bṛhaspate juṣasva no havyāni viśvadevya | rāsva ratnāni dāśuṣe ||

Bṛhaspati, friend of all the gods, accept our oblations; grant precious treasures to the offerer.

शुचिमर्कैर्बृहस्पतिमध्वरेषु नमस्यत । अनाम्योज आ चके ॥

śucimarkairbṛhaspatimadhvareṣu namasyata | anāmyoja ā cake ||

Adore the pure Bṛhaspati at sacrifices with hymns; I solicit of him unsurpassable strength.

वृषभं चर्षणीनां विश्वरूपमदाभ्यम् । बृहस्पतिं वरेण्यम् ॥

vṛṣabhaṃ carṣaṇīnāṃ viśvarūpamadābhyam | bṛhaspatiṃ vareṇyam ||

The showerer (of benefits) on men, the omniform, the irreproachable, the excellent Bṛhaspati.

इयं ते पूषन्नाघृणे सुष्टुतिर्देव नव्यसी । अस्माभिस्तुभ्यं शस्यते ॥

iyaṃ te pūṣannāghṛṇe suṣṭutirdeva navyasī | asmābhistubhyaṃ śasyate ||

Divine, resplendent, Pūṣan, this, your most recent laudation, is uttered by us to you.

तां जुषस्व गिरं मम वाजयन्तीमवा धियम् । वधूयुरिव योषणाम् ॥

tāṃ juṣasva giraṃ mama vājayantīmavā dhiyam | vadhūyuriva yoṣaṇām ||

Be plural ased by this my praise, and incline to this food-supplicating laudation as an excessively submissive (husband) to his wife.

यो विश्वाभि विपश्यति भुवना सं च पश्यति । स नः पूषाविता भुवत् ॥

yo viśvābhi vipaśyati bhuvanā saṃ ca paśyati | sa naḥ pūṣāvitā bhuvat ||

May that Pūṣan, who looks upon all the worlds, who thoroughly contemplates them, be our protector.

तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

tatsaviturvareṇyaṃ bhargo devasya dhīmahi | dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt ||

We meditate on that desirable light of the divine Savitā, who influences our pious rites.

देवस्य सवितुर्वयं वाजयन्तः पुरंध्या । भगस्य रातिमीमहे ॥

devasya saviturvayaṃ vājayantaḥ puraṃdhyā | bhagasya rātimīmahe ||

Desirous of food, we solicit with praise of the divine Savitā, the gift of affluence.

देवं नरः सवितारं विप्रा यज्ञैः सुवृक्तिभिः । नमस्यन्ति धियेषिताः ॥

devaṃ naraḥ savitāraṃ viprā yajñaiḥ suvṛktibhiḥ | namasyanti dhiyeṣitāḥ ||

Devout and wise men, impelled by intelligence, adore the divine Savitā with sacrifices and sacred hymns.

सोमो जिगाति गातुविद्देवानामेति निष्कृतम् । ऋतस्य योनिमासदम् ॥

somo jigāti gātuviddevānāmeti niṣkṛtam | ṛtasya yonimāsadam ||

Soma, knowing the right path, proceeds (by it); he goes to the excellent seat of the gods, the plural ce of sacrifice.

सोमो अस्मभ्यं द्विपदे चतुष्पदे च पशवे । अनमीवा इषस्करत् ॥

somo asmabhyaṃ dvipade catuṣpade ca paśave | anamīvā iṣaskarat ||

May Soma grant to us and to (our) biped and quadruped animals, wholesome food.

अस्माकमायुर्वर्धयन्नभिमातीः सहमानः । सोमः सधस्थमासदत् ॥

asmākamāyurvardhayannabhimātīḥ sahamānaḥ | somaḥ sadhasthamāsadat ||

May Soma, prolonging our lives and overcoming our adversaries, sit down in our plural ce of sacrifice.

आ नो मित्रावरुणा घृतैर्गव्यूतिमुक्षतम् । मध्वा रजांसि सुक्रतू ॥

ā no mitrāvaruṇā ghṛtairgavyūtimukṣatam | madhvā rajāṃsi sukratū ||

Mitra and Varuṇa, sprinkle our cow-stalls with butter; performers of good works, (sprinkle) the worlds with honey.

उरुशंसा नमोवृधा मह्ना दक्षस्य राजथः । द्राघिष्ठाभिः शुचिव्रता ॥

uruśaṃsā namovṛdhā mahnā dakṣasya rājathaḥ | drāghiṣṭhābhiḥ śucivratā ||

Performers of pure rites, glorified by many, exalted by adoration, (celebrated) by prolonged praises, you reign by the greatness of (your) strength.

गृणाना जमदग्निना योनावृतस्य सीदतम् । पातं सोममृतावृधा ॥

gṛṇānā jamadagninā yonāvṛtasya sīdatam | pātaṃ somamṛtāvṛdhā ||

Glorified by Jamadagni, sit down in the plural ce of sacrifice (the altar); drink, augmenters (of the reward) of sacrifice, the Soma libation.
