[rv-3-6] • 11 श्लोकाः

प्र कारवो मनना वच्यमाना देवद्रीचीं नयत देवयन्तः । दक्षिणावाड्वाजिनी प्राच्येति हविर्भरन्त्यग्नये घृताची ॥

pra kāravo mananā vacyamānā devadrīcīṃ nayata devayantaḥ | dakṣiṇāvāḍvājinī prācyeti havirbharantyagnaye ghṛtācī ||

Devout ministrants, who are to be inspired by prayer, bring forth (the ladle) destined for the worship of the gods, which is to be conveyed to the south (of the fire-altar), and which, charged with (sacrificial) food, pointed to the east, containing the oblation, and, filled with liquefied butter, proceeds to Agni.

आ रोदसी अपृणा जायमान उत प्र रिक्था अध नु प्रयज्यो । दिवश्चिदग्ने महिना पृथिव्या वच्यन्तां ते वह्नयः सप्तजिह्वाः ॥

ā rodasī apṛṇā jāyamāna uta pra rikthā adha nu prayajyo | divaścidagne mahinā pṛthivyā vacyantāṃ te vahnayaḥ saptajihvāḥ ||

Agni, as soon as born, occupy both heaven and earth; for you, to whom sacrifice is to be offered, exceed in magnitude the firmament and the earth; may your seven-tongued fires be glorified.

द्यौश्च त्वा पृथिवी यज्ञियासो नि होतारं सादयन्ते दमाय । यदी विशो मानुषीर्देवयन्तीः प्रयस्वतीरीऴते शुक्रमर्चिः ॥

dyauśca tvā pṛthivī yajñiyāso ni hotāraṃ sādayante damāya | yadī viśo mānuṣīrdevayantīḥ prayasvatīrīḻate śukramarciḥ ||

The firmament and the earth and the adorable (gods) propitiate you their invoker, for the (completion of the) sacrifice, whenever the descendants of Manu, pious, and bearing oblations, glorify your radiant flame.

महान्त्सधस्थे ध्रुव आ निषत्तोऽन्तर्द्यावा माहिने हर्यमाणः । आस्क्रे सपत्नी अजरे अमृक्ते सबर्दुघे उरुगायस्य धेनू ॥

mahāntsadhasthe dhruva ā niṣatto'ntardyāvā māhine haryamāṇaḥ | āskre sapatnī ajare amṛkte sabardughe urugāyasya dhenū ||

The great and adorable Agni is firm seated on his spacious throne between heaven and earth; and the powerful fellow-brides (of the sun), the imperishable uninjurable (heaven and earth) are the two milk-yielding cows of the wide-extending (Agni).

व्रता ते अग्ने महतो महानि तव क्रत्वा रोदसी आ ततन्थ । त्वं दूतो अभवो जायमानस्त्वं नेता वृषभ चर्षणीनाम् ॥

vratā te agne mahato mahāni tava kratvā rodasī ā tatantha | tvaṃ dūto abhavo jāyamānastvaṃ netā vṛṣabha carṣaṇīnām ||

Great, Agni, are the deeds of you the mighty one; you have spread abroad by your power the heaven and earth; you have been the messenger (of the gods); as soon as begotten you have become the leader of men.

ऋतस्य वा केशिना योग्याभिर्घृतस्नुवा रोहिता धुरि धिष्व । अथा वह देवान्देव विश्वान्त्स्वध्वरा कृणुहि जातवेदः ॥

ṛtasya vā keśinā yogyābhirghṛtasnuvā rohitā dhuri dhiṣva | athā vaha devāndeva viśvāntsvadhvarā kṛṇuhi jātavedaḥ ||

Harness with traces, to your car, your long-maned, ruddy (steeds, to come) to the sacrifice; bring hither, divine Jātavedas, all the gods, and make them propitious to the oblation.

दिवश्चिदा ते रुचयन्त रोका उषो विभातीरनु भासि पूर्वीः । अपो यदग्न उशधग्वनेषु होतुर्मन्द्रस्य पनयन्त देवाः ॥

divaścidā te rucayanta rokā uṣo vibhātīranu bhāsi pūrvīḥ | apo yadagna uśadhagvaneṣu hoturmandrasya panayanta devāḥ ||

When, Agni, you abide in the woods, consuming the waters at your plural asure, then your rays illuminate the heavens, and you shine like many former radiant dawns; the gods themselves commend (the brilliancy) of their praise-meriting invoker.

उरौ वा ये अन्तरिक्षे मदन्ति दिवो वा ये रोचने सन्ति देवाः । ऊमा वा ये सुहवासो यजत्रा आयेमिरे रथ्यो अग्ने अश्वाः ॥

urau vā ye antarikṣe madanti divo vā ye rocane santi devāḥ | ūmā vā ye suhavāso yajatrā āyemire rathyo agne aśvāḥ ||

The deities who sport in the spacious (firmament); those who are in the luminous sphere of heaven; the adorable Umas, who come when worthily invoked; the horses, Agni, that are fit for your car.

ऐभिरग्ने सरथं याह्यर्वाङ्नानारथं वा विभवो ह्यश्वाः । पत्नीवतस्त्रिंशतं त्रीँश्च देवाननुष्वधमा वह मादयस्व ॥

aibhiragne sarathaṃ yāhyarvāṅnānārathaṃ vā vibhavo hyaśvāḥ | patnīvatastriṃśataṃ trī~śca devānanuṣvadhamā vaha mādayasva ||

With all these in one chariot, Agni, or in many (chariots), come to our presence, for your horses are able; bring the three and thirty divinities with their wives, for the sake of (the sacrificial) food, and exhilarate them (all with the Soma).

स होता यस्य रोदसी चिदुर्वी यज्ञंयज्ञमभि वृधे गृणीतः । प्राची अध्वरेव तस्थतुः सुमेके ऋतावरी ऋतजातस्य सत्ये ॥

sa hotā yasya rodasī cidurvī yajñaṃyajñamabhi vṛdhe gṛṇītaḥ | prācī adhvareva tasthatuḥ sumeke ṛtāvarī ṛtajātasya satye ||

He is the invoker (of the gods), whom the spacious heaven and earth glorify, for the sake of increase, at repeated sacrifices; charged with water, they await like holy rites, propitious to the real presence of him who is born of truth.

इऴामग्ने पुरुदंसं सनिं गोः शश्वत्तमं हवमानाय साध । स्यान्नः सूनुस्तनयो विजावाग्ने सा ते सुमतिर्भूत्वस्मे ॥

iḻāmagne purudaṃsaṃ saniṃ goḥ śaśvattamaṃ havamānāya sādha | syānnaḥ sūnustanayo vijāvāgne sā te sumatirbhūtvasme ||

Grant, Agni, to the offerer of the oblation, the earth, the bestower of cattle, the means of many (pious rites); such that it may be perpetual; may there be to us sons and grandsons born in our race, and may our good-will ever be upon us.
