[rv-3-11] • 9 श्लोकाः

अग्निर्होता पुरोहितोऽध्वरस्य विचर्षणिः । स वेद यज्ञमानुषक् ॥

agnirhotā purohito'dhvarasya vicarṣaṇiḥ | sa veda yajñamānuṣak ||

Agni, the invoker of the gods, the minister (of the gods), the supervisor of the sacrifice, understands the solemn rite in its due course.

स हव्यवाऴमर्त्य उशिग्दूतश्चनोहितः । अग्निर्धिया समृण्वति ॥

sa havyavāḻamartya uśigdūtaścanohitaḥ | agnirdhiyā samṛṇvati ||

That Agni, who is the bearer of oblations, the immortal, the desirer (of offerings), the messenger (of the gods), and is the receiver of sacrificial viands, is associated with understanding.

अग्निर्धिया स चेतति केतुर्यज्ञस्य पूर्व्यः । अर्थं ह्यस्य तरणि ॥

agnirdhiyā sa cetati keturyajñasya pūrvyaḥ | arthaṃ hyasya taraṇi ||

Agni, the ancient banner (flag) of sacrifice, knows (all things) through understanding; his radiance traverses (the darkness).

अग्निं सूनुं सनश्रुतं सहसो जातवेदसम् । वह्निं देवा अकृण्वत ॥

agniṃ sūnuṃ sanaśrutaṃ sahaso jātavedasam | vahniṃ devā akṛṇvata ||

The gods have made Agni, who is the son of strength, the eternally-renowned, the knower of all that is born, the bearer (of oblations).

अदाभ्यः पुरएता विशामग्निर्मानुषीणाम् । तूर्णी रथः सदा नवः ॥

adābhyaḥ puraetā viśāmagnirmānuṣīṇām | tūrṇī rathaḥ sadā navaḥ ||

Agni, the preceder of human beings, (ever) alert, the vehicle of their offerings, is ever new, is unsusceptible of harm.

साह्वान्विश्वा अभियुजः क्रतुर्देवानाममृक्तः । अग्निस्तुविश्रवस्तमः ॥

sāhvānviśvā abhiyujaḥ kraturdevānāmamṛktaḥ | agnistuviśravastamaḥ ||

Agni, the most liberal contributor of food, is able to resist all assailants unharmed, the nourisher of the gods.

अभि प्रयांसि वाहसा दाश्वाँ अश्नोति मर्त्यः । क्षयं पावकशोचिषः ॥

abhi prayāṃsi vāhasā dāśvā~ aśnoti martyaḥ | kṣayaṃ pāvakaśociṣaḥ ||

From Agni of purifying radiance the mortal presenter (of offerings) obtains by his conveyance (of them to the gods) abundant viands and a dwelling.

परि विश्वानि सुधिताग्नेरश्याम मन्मभिः । विप्रासो जातवेदसः ॥

pari viśvāni sudhitāgneraśyāma manmabhiḥ | viprāso jātavedasaḥ ||

May we, endowed with intelligence, obtain all good things by our praises of Agni, to whom all is known.

अग्ने विश्वानि वार्या वाजेषु सनिषामहे । त्वे देवास एरिरे ॥

agne viśvāni vāryā vājeṣu saniṣāmahe | tve devāsa erire ||

May we obtain, Agni, all precious things (as booty) in battles, since the gods are concentrated in you.
