ऋग्वेद 2.42 (श्लोक 3) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

कनिक्रदज्जनुषं प्रब्रुवाण इयर्ति वाचमरितेव नावम् । सुमङ्गलश्च शकुने भवासि मा त्वा का चिदभिभा विश्व्या विदत् ॥

kanikradajjanuṣaṃ prabruvāṇa iyarti vācamariteva nāvam | sumaṅgalaśca śakune bhavāsi mā tvā kā cidabhibhā viśvyā vidat ||

Crying repeatedly, and foretelling what will come to pass, (the kapiñjala) gives (due) direction to its voice, as a helmsman (guides) a boat; be ominous, bird, of good fortune, and may no calamity whatever befall you from any quarter.

मा त्वा श्येन उद्वधीन्मा सुपर्णो मा त्वा विददिषुमान्वीरो अस्ता । पित्र्यामनु प्रदिशं कनिक्रदत्सुमङ्गलो भद्रवादी वदेह ॥

mā tvā śyena udvadhīnmā suparṇo mā tvā vidadiṣumānvīro astā | pitryāmanu pradiśaṃ kanikradatsumaṅgalo bhadravādī vadeha ||

May no kite, no eagle, kill you; may no archer armed with arrows, reach you; crying repeatedly, in the region of the Pitā, be ominous of good fortune; proclaimer of good luck, speak to us on this occasion.

अव क्रन्द दक्षिणतो गृहाणां सुमङ्गलो भद्रवादी शकुन्ते । मा नः स्तेन ईशत माघशंसो बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

ava kranda dakṣiṇato gṛhāṇāṃ sumaṅgalo bhadravādī śakunte | mā naḥ stena īśata māghaśaṃso bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

Bird, who are ominous of good fortune, the proclaimer of good luck, cry from the south of our dwellings; may no thief, no evil-doer prevail agains tus; that blessed with excellent descendants we may worthily praise you at this sacrifice.
