[rv-2-3] • 11 श्लोकाः

समिद्धो अग्निर्निहितः पृथिव्यां प्रत्यङ्विश्वानि भुवनान्यस्थात् । होता पावकः प्रदिवः सुमेधा देवो देवान्यजत्वग्निरर्हन् ॥

samiddho agnirnihitaḥ pṛthivyāṃ pratyaṅviśvāni bhuvanānyasthāt | hotā pāvakaḥ pradivaḥ sumedhā devo devānyajatvagnirarhan ||

Agni, the well-kindled, plural ced upon (the altar of) the earth, stands in the presence of all beings; the invoker (of the gods), the purifier, the ancient, the intelligent, the divine; let the venerable Agni minister to the gods.

नराशंसः प्रति धामान्यञ्जन्तिस्रो दिवः प्रति मह्ना स्वर्चिः । घृतप्रुषा मनसा हव्यमुन्दन्मूर्धन्यज्ञस्य समनक्तु देवान् ॥

narāśaṃsaḥ prati dhāmānyañjantisro divaḥ prati mahnā svarciḥ | ghṛtapruṣā manasā havyamundanmūrdhanyajñasya samanaktu devān ||

May the bright Narāśaṃsa, illuminating the receptacles (of the offering) making manifest by his greatness the three radiant (regions) and diffusing the oblation at the season of sacrifice with butter-dispensing purpose, satisfy the gods.

ईऴितो अग्ने मनसा नो अर्हन्देवान्यक्षि मानुषात्पूर्वो अद्य । स आ वह मरुतां शर्धो अच्युतमिन्द्रं नरो बर्हिषदं यजध्वम् ॥

īḻito agne manasā no arhandevānyakṣi mānuṣātpūrvo adya | sa ā vaha marutāṃ śardho acyutamindraṃ naro barhiṣadaṃ yajadhvam ||

Agni, who are the venerable īḷita, do you, with mind favourably disposed towards us, offer today sacrifice to the gods, before the human (ministrant priest) as such, bring hither the company of the Maruts, the undecaying Indra, to whom, seated on the sacred grass, do you priests offer worship.

देव बर्हिर्वर्धमानं सुवीरं स्तीर्णं राये सुभरं वेद्यस्याम् । घृतेनाक्तं वसवः सीदतेदं विश्वे देवा आदित्या यज्ञियासः ॥

deva barhirvardhamānaṃ suvīraṃ stīrṇaṃ rāye subharaṃ vedyasyām | ghṛtenāktaṃ vasavaḥ sīdatedaṃ viśve devā ādityā yajñiyāsaḥ ||

Divine grass, let the Vasus, the VIśvedevas, the adorable Āditya, sit upon this flourishing, invigrating, well-grown, sacred grass, strewn for the sakeof wealth upon this altar, and sprinkled with butter.

वि श्रयन्तामुर्विया हूयमाना द्वारो देवीः सुप्रायणा नमोभिः । व्यचस्वतीर्वि प्रथन्तामजुर्या वर्णं पुनाना यशसं सुवीरम् ॥

vi śrayantāmurviyā hūyamānā dvāro devīḥ suprāyaṇā namobhiḥ | vyacasvatīrvi prathantāmajuryā varṇaṃ punānā yaśasaṃ suvīram ||

Let the divine doors, spacious and easily accessible, and to be saluted with prostrations, be set open; let them be celebrated as expansive, uninjurable, and conferring sanctity upon the illustrious class (of worshippers), possessed of virtuous progeny.

साध्वपांसि सनता न उक्षिते उषासानक्ता वय्येव रण्विते । तन्तुं ततं संवयन्ती समीची यज्ञस्य पेशः सुदुघे पयस्वती ॥

sādhvapāṃsi sanatā na ukṣite uṣāsānaktā vayyeva raṇvite | tantuṃ tataṃ saṃvayantī samīcī yajñasya peśaḥ sudughe payasvatī ||

In regard of our good deeds, Day and Night, perpetually reverenced, are interweaving in concert, like two famous feminine le weavers, the extended thread, (to complete) the web of the sacrifice, liberal yielders (of rewards), containers of water.

दैव्या होतारा प्रथमा विदुष्टर ऋजु यक्षतः समृचा वपुष्टरा । देवान्यजन्तावृतुथा समञ्जतो नाभा पृथिव्या अधि सानुषु त्रिषु ॥

daivyā hotārā prathamā viduṣṭara ṛju yakṣataḥ samṛcā vapuṣṭarā | devānyajantāvṛtuthā samañjato nābhā pṛthivyā adhi sānuṣu triṣu ||

Let the two divine invokers of the gods, the first (to be reverenced), most wise, sincerely worshipping with sacred texts, most excellent in form, offering homage to the gods in due season, present oblations in the three high plural ces upon the navel of the earth.

सरस्वती साधयन्ती धियं न इऴा देवी भारती विश्वतूर्तिः । तिस्रो देवीः स्वधया बर्हिरेदमच्छिद्रं पान्तु शरणं निषद्य ॥

sarasvatī sādhayantī dhiyaṃ na iḻā devī bhāratī viśvatūrtiḥ | tisro devīḥ svadhayā barhiredamacchidraṃ pāntu śaraṇaṃ niṣadya ||

May the three goddesses, Sarasvatī, perfecting our understanding, the divine iḷā, and all-impressive Bhāratī, having come to our dwelling, protect this faultless rite, (offered) for our welfare.

पिशङ्गरूपः सुभरो वयोधाः श्रुष्टी वीरो जायते देवकामः । प्रजां त्वष्टा वि ष्यतु नाभिमस्मे अथा देवानामप्येतु पाथः ॥

piśaṅgarūpaḥ subharo vayodhāḥ śruṣṭī vīro jāyate devakāmaḥ | prajāṃ tvaṣṭā vi ṣyatu nābhimasme athā devānāmapyetu pāthaḥ ||

May a tawny-hued, well-grown (son), the bestower of food, active, manly, a worshipper of the gods, be born; may Tvaṣṭā prolong for us a continuous (line of) progeny, and may the food of the gods come also to us.

वनस्पतिरवसृजन्नुप स्थादग्निर्हविः सूदयाति प्र धीभिः । त्रिधा समक्तं नयतु प्रजानन्देवेभ्यो दैव्यः शमितोप हव्यम् ॥

vanaspatiravasṛjannupa sthādagnirhaviḥ sūdayāti pra dhībhiḥ | tridhā samaktaṃ nayatu prajānandevebhyo daivyaḥ śamitopa havyam ||

May Agni, who is Vanaspati, approving (of our rite), approach; and by his especial acts fully dress the victim; may the divine immolator convey the burnt-offering to the gods, knowing it to have been thrice consecrated.

घृतं मिमिक्षे घृतमस्य योनिर्घृते श्रितो घृतम्वस्य धाम । अनुष्वधमा वह मादयस्व स्वाहाकृतं वृषभ वक्षि हव्यम् ॥

ghṛtaṃ mimikṣe ghṛtamasya yonirghṛte śrito ghṛtamvasya dhāma | anuṣvadhamā vaha mādayasva svāhākṛtaṃ vṛṣabha vakṣi havyam ||

I sprinkle the butter, for butter is his birth-plural ce; he is nourished by butter; butter is his radiance; Agni, showerer (of benefits), bring the gods to the offered oblation; exhilarate them; convey to them the offering that has been reverently sanctified.
