[rv-2-2] • 13 श्लोकाः

यज्ञेन वर्धत जातवेदसमग्निं यजध्वं हविषा तना गिरा । समिधानं सुप्रयसं स्वर्णरं द्युक्षं होतारं वृजनेषु धूर्षदम् ॥

yajñena vardhata jātavedasamagniṃ yajadhvaṃ haviṣā tanā girā | samidhānaṃ suprayasaṃ svarṇaraṃ dyukṣaṃ hotāraṃ vṛjaneṣu dhūrṣadam ||

Exalt with sacrifice, Agni, who knows all that has been born; worship him with oblations, and with ample praise; him who is well kindled, well fed, much lauded, resplendent, the conveyer of oblations, the giver of strength (to the body).

अभि त्वा नक्तीरुषसो ववाशिरेऽग्ने वत्सं न स्वसरेषु धेनवः । दिव इवेदरतिर्मानुषा युगा क्षपो भासि पुरुवार संयतः ॥

abhi tvā naktīruṣaso vavāśire'gne vatsaṃ na svasareṣu dhenavaḥ | diva ivedaratirmānuṣā yugā kṣapo bhāsi puruvāra saṃyataḥ ||

The mornings and evenings, Agni, are desirous (of worshipping) you, as cows in their stalls long for their calves; adored of many, you, self-controlled, are verily spread through the sky; you (are present at all) the sacred rites of men, and shine brightly by night.

तं देवा बुध्ने रजसः सुदंससं दिवस्पृथिव्योररतिं न्येरिरे । रथमिव वेद्यं शुक्रशोचिषमग्निं मित्रं न क्षितिषु प्रशंस्यम् ॥

taṃ devā budhne rajasaḥ sudaṃsasaṃ divaspṛthivyoraratiṃ nyerire | rathamiva vedyaṃ śukraśociṣamagniṃ mitraṃ na kṣitiṣu praśaṃsyam ||

The gods have stationed at the root of the world, that Agni who is of goodly appearance; the pervader of heaven and earth; who is to be known as a car (to convey men to their wishes); who shines with pure radiance, and who is to be honoured as a friend among mankind.

तमुक्षमाणं रजसि स्व आ दमे चन्द्रमिव सुरुचं ह्वार आ दधुः । पृश्न्याः पतरं चितयन्तमक्षभिः पाथो न पायुं जनसी उभे अनु ॥

tamukṣamāṇaṃ rajasi sva ā dame candramiva surucaṃ hvāra ā dadhuḥ | pṛśnyāḥ pataraṃ citayantamakṣabhiḥ pātho na pāyuṃ janasī ubhe anu ||

They have plural ced him in his solitary dwelling, who is shedding moisture upon the earth; resplendent as gold, traversing the firmament, animate with flames; and pervading the two parents (of all things, heaven and earth), like refreshing water.

स होता विश्वं परि भूत्वध्वरं तमु हव्यैर्मनुष ऋञ्जते गिरा । हिरिशिप्रो वृधसानासु जर्भुरद्द्यौर्न स्तृभिश्चितयद्रोदसी अनु ॥

sa hotā viśvaṃ pari bhūtvadhvaraṃ tamu havyairmanuṣa ṛñjate girā | hiriśipro vṛdhasānāsu jarbhuraddyaurna stṛbhiścitayadrodasī anu ||

May he, the presenter of oblations (to the gods), be around all sacrifices; men propitiate him with oblations and with praises, when blazing with radiant tresses among the growing plural nts, and enlivening heaven and earth (with his sparks), like the sky with stars.

स नो रेवत्समिधानः स्वस्तये संददस्वान्रयिमस्मासु दीदिहि । आ नः कृणुष्व सुविताय रोदसी अग्ने हव्या मनुषो देव वीतये ॥

sa no revatsamidhānaḥ svastaye saṃdadasvānrayimasmāsu dīdihi | ā naḥ kṛṇuṣva suvitāya rodasī agne havyā manuṣo deva vītaye ||

You, Agni, are he who, for our good, are possessed of riches; kindled by us, blaze as the liberal donor of wealth to us; render heaven and earth propitious to us so that, divine Agni, (the gods) may partake of the oblations of the instrumental tutor of the rite.

दा नो अग्ने बृहतो दाः सहस्रिणो दुरो न वाजं श्रुत्या अपा वृधि । प्राची द्यावापृथिवी ब्रह्मणा कृधि स्वर्ण शुक्रमुषसो वि दिद्युतः ॥

dā no agne bṛhato dāḥ sahasriṇo duro na vājaṃ śrutyā apā vṛdhi | prācī dyāvāpṛthivī brahmaṇā kṛdhi svarṇa śukramuṣaso vi didyutaḥ ||

Bestow upon us, Agni, infinite possessions; grant us thousands (of cattle and dependents); open to us, for your reputation, the doors of abudance; make heaven and earth, propitiated by sacred prayer, favourable to us, and may the mornings light you up like the sun.

स इधान उषसो राम्या अनु स्वर्ण दीदेदरुषेण भानुना । होत्राभिरग्निर्मनुषः स्वध्वरो राजा विशामतिथिश्चारुरायवे ॥

sa idhāna uṣaso rāmyā anu svarṇa dīdedaruṣeṇa bhānunā | hotrābhiragnirmanuṣaḥ svadhvaro rājā viśāmatithiścārurāyave ||

Kindled at the beautiful dawn, (Agni) shines with brilliant lustre, like the sun; adored by the hymns of the worshipper, Agni, the king of men, (comes as) an agreeable guest to the instrumental tutor of the sacrifice.

एवा नो अग्ने अमृतेषु पूर्व्य धीष्पीपाय बृहद्दिवेषु मानुषा । दुहाना धेनुर्वृजनेषु कारवे त्मना शतिनं पुरुरूपमिषणि ॥

evā no agne amṛteṣu pūrvya dhīṣpīpāya bṛhaddiveṣu mānuṣā | duhānā dhenurvṛjaneṣu kārave tmanā śatinaṃ pururūpamiṣaṇi ||

Among men our praise, Agni, celebrate syou, who are first among the greatly-splendid immortals; (may it be to us) as a cow spontaneously yielding at sacrifices to the worshipper, infinite and multiform (blessings according to his) desire.

वयमग्ने अर्वता वा सुवीर्यं ब्रह्मणा वा चितयेमा जनाँ अति । अस्माकं द्युम्नमधि पञ्च कृष्टिषूच्चा स्वर्ण शुशुचीत दुष्टरम् ॥

vayamagne arvatā vā suvīryaṃ brahmaṇā vā citayemā janā~ ati | asmākaṃ dyumnamadhi pañca kṛṣṭiṣūccā svarṇa śuśucīta duṣṭaram ||

May we manifest vigour among other men, Agni, through the steed and the food (which you have given); and may our unsurpassed wealth shine like the sun over (that of) the five classes of beings.

स नो बोधि सहस्य प्रशंस्यो यस्मिन्त्सुजाता इषयन्त सूरयः । यमग्ने यज्ञमुपयन्ति वाजिनो नित्ये तोके दीदिवांसं स्वे दमे ॥

sa no bodhi sahasya praśaṃsyo yasmintsujātā iṣayanta sūrayaḥ | yamagne yajñamupayanti vājino nitye toke dīdivāṃsaṃ sve dame ||

Vigorous Agni, hear (our prayers); for you are he who is to be lauded; to whom the well-born priests address (their hymns); and whom, entitled to worship, and radiant in thine own abode, the offerers of the oblation approach, for the sake of never-failing posterity.

उभयासो जातवेदः स्याम ते स्तोतारो अग्ने सूरयश्च शर्मणि । वस्वो रायः पुरुश्चन्द्रस्य भूयसः प्रजावतः स्वपत्यस्य शग्धि नः ॥

ubhayāso jātavedaḥ syāma te stotāro agne sūrayaśca śarmaṇi | vasvo rāyaḥ puruścandrasya bhūyasaḥ prajāvataḥ svapatyasya śagdhi naḥ ||

Agni, knowing all that is born, may we, both adorers and priests, be thine for the sake of felicity; and do you bestow upon us wealth of dwellings, of cattle, of much gold, of many dependents and virtuous offspring.

ये स्तोतृभ्यो गोअग्रामश्वपेशसमग्ने रातिमुपसृजन्ति सूरयः । अस्माञ्च ताँश्च प्र हि नेषि वस्य आ बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

ye stotṛbhyo goagrāmaśvapeśasamagne rātimupasṛjanti sūrayaḥ | asmāñca tā~śca pra hi neṣi vasya ā bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

The pious are they who present, as a gift, to the reciters of your praises, an excellent cow and an elegant horse; do you, Agni, lead us and them to the best of abodes, (or heaven), that we and our worthy descendants may repeat the solemn prayer to you at the sacrifice.
