ऋग्वेद 2.13 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

ऋतुर्जनित्री तस्या अपस्परि मक्षू जात आविशद्यासु वर्धते । तदाहना अभवत्पिप्युषी पय्ॐऽशोः पीयूषं प्रथमं तदुक्थ्यम् ॥

ṛturjanitrī tasyā apaspari makṣū jāta āviśadyāsu vardhate | tadāhanā abhavatpipyuṣī payoṃ'śoḥ pīyūṣaṃ prathamaṃ tadukthyam ||

The season (of the rains) is the parent (of the Soma), which, as soon as born of her, enters into the waters in which it grows; thence it is fit for expression, as concentrating (the essence of the) water, and the juice of the Soma is especially to be praised (as the libation proper for Indra).

सध्रीमा यन्ति परि बिभ्रतीः पयो विश्वप्स्न्याय प्र भरन्त भोजनम् । समानो अध्वा प्रवतामनुष्यदे यस्ताकृणोः प्रथमं सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

sadhrīmā yanti pari bibhratīḥ payo viśvapsnyāya pra bharanta bhojanam | samāno adhvā pravatāmanuṣyade yastākṛṇoḥ prathamaṃ sāsyukthyaḥ ||

The aggregated (streams) come, bearing everywhere the water, and conveying it as sustenance for the asylum of all rivers, (the ocean); the samepath is (assigned) to all the descending (currents) to follow; and as he, who has (assigned) them (their course), you, (Indra), are especially to be praised.

अन्वेको वदति यद्ददाति तद्रूपा मिनन्तदपा एक ईयते । विश्वा एकस्य विनुदस्तितिक्षते यस्ताकृणोः प्रथमं सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

anveko vadati yaddadāti tadrūpā minantadapā eka īyate | viśvā ekasya vinudastitikṣate yastākṛṇoḥ prathamaṃ sāsyukthyaḥ ||

One (priest) announces (the offering) that he, (the instrumental tutor of the rite) presents; another performs the act that apportions the limbs (of the victim); a third corrects all the deficiencies of either, and as he, who has enjoyed these (functions), your, (Indra), are especially to be praised.

प्रजाभ्यः पुष्टिं विभजन्त आसते रयिमिव पृष्ठं प्रभवन्तमायते । असिन्वन्दंष्ट्रैः पितुरत्ति भोजनं यस्ताकृणोः प्रथमं सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

prajābhyaḥ puṣṭiṃ vibhajanta āsate rayimiva pṛṣṭhaṃ prabhavantamāyate | asinvandaṃṣṭraiḥ pituratti bhojanaṃ yastākṛṇoḥ prathamaṃ sāsyukthyaḥ ||

Distributing nourishment to their progeny, they, (the householders), abide (in their dwellings), as if offering ample and sustaining wealth to a guest; constructing (useful works, a man) eats with his teeth the food (given him) by (his) protector and as he, who has enjoined these (things to be done), you, (Indra), are especially to be praised.

अधाकृणोः पृथिवीं संदृशे दिवे यो धौतीनामहिहन्नारिणक्पथः । तं त्वा स्तोमेभिरुदभिर्न वाजिनं देवं देवा अजनन्त्सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

adhākṛṇoḥ pṛthivīṃ saṃdṛśe dive yo dhautīnāmahihannāriṇakpathaḥ | taṃ tvā stomebhirudabhirna vājinaṃ devaṃ devā ajanantsāsyukthyaḥ ||

Inasmuch as you have rendered earth visible to heaven, and have set open the path of the rivers by slaying Ahi; therefore the gods have rendered you divine by praises, as (men) invigorate a horse by water; (and) you are, (Indra), to be praised.

यो भोजनं च दयसे च वर्धनमार्द्रादा शुष्कं मधुमद्दुदोहिथ । स शेवधिं नि दधिषे विवस्वति विश्वस्यैक ईशिषे सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

yo bhojanaṃ ca dayase ca vardhanamārdrādā śuṣkaṃ madhumaddudohitha | sa śevadhiṃ ni dadhiṣe vivasvati viśvasyaika īśiṣe sāsyukthyaḥ ||

(You are he) who bestows both food and increase, and milk the dry nutritious (grain) from out of the humid stalk; he, who gives wealth to the worshipper, and are sole sovereign of the universe you are he, (Indra), who is to be praised.

यः पुष्पिणीश्च प्रस्वश्च धर्मणाधि दाने व्यवनीरधारयः । यश्चासमा अजनो दिद्युतो दिव उरुरूर्वाँ अभितः सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

yaḥ puṣpiṇīśca prasvaśca dharmaṇādhi dāne vyavanīradhārayaḥ | yaścāsamā ajano didyuto diva ururūrvā~ abhitaḥ sāsyukthyaḥ ||

You who have caused, by culture, the flowering and fruitful (plural nts) to spread over the field; who have genitive rated the various luminaries of heaven; and who, of vast bulk, comprehend vast (bodies); you are he who is to be praised.

यो नार्मरं सहवसुं निहन्तवे पृक्षाय च दासवेशाय चावहः । ऊर्जयन्त्या अपरिविष्टमास्यमुतैवाद्य पुरुकृत्सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

yo nārmaraṃ sahavasuṃ nihantave pṛkṣāya ca dāsaveśāya cāvahaḥ | ūrjayantyā apariviṣṭamāsyamutaivādya purukṛtsāsyukthyaḥ ||

You, who are (famed for) many exploits, put on today an unclouded countenance, (as prepared) to slay Sahavasu, the son of Nṛmara, with the sharpened (edge of the thunderbolt), in defence of the (sacrificial) food, and for the destruction of dasyu; you are he who is to be praised.

शतं वा यस्य दश साकमाद्य एकस्य श्रुष्टौ यद्ध चोदमाविथ । अरज्जौ दस्यून्त्समुनब्दभीतये सुप्राव्यो अभवः सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

śataṃ vā yasya daśa sākamādya ekasya śruṣṭau yaddha codamāvitha | arajjau dasyūntsamunabdabhītaye suprāvyo abhavaḥ sāsyukthyaḥ ||

You, for whose sole plural asure a thousand (steeds are ready); by whom all are to be fed; and who protects the instrumental tutor (of the sacrifice); who, for the sake of Dabhīti, has caste the Dasyus into unfettered (captivity), and who are to be approached (by all), you are he who is to be praised.

विश्वेदनु रोधना अस्य पौंस्यं ददुरस्मै दधिरे कृत्नवे धनम् । षऴस्तभ्ना विष्टिरः पञ्च संदृशः परि परो अभवः सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

viśvedanu rodhanā asya pauṃsyaṃ dadurasmai dadhire kṛtnave dhanam | ṣaḻastabhnā viṣṭiraḥ pañca saṃdṛśaḥ pari paro abhavaḥ sāsyukthyaḥ ||

You are he, from whose manhood all the rivers (have proceeded); to whom (the pious) have given (offerings); to whom, doer of mighty deeds, they have presented wealth; you are he, who have regulated the six expansive (objects), and are the protector of the five (races), that look up to you; you are he who is to be praised.

सुप्रवाचनं तव वीर वीर्यं यदेकेन क्रतुना विन्दसे वसु । जातूष्ठिरस्य प्र वयः सहस्वतो या चकर्थ सेन्द्र विश्वास्युक्थ्यः ॥

supravācanaṃ tava vīra vīryaṃ yadekena kratunā vindase vasu | jātūṣṭhirasya pra vayaḥ sahasvato yā cakartha sendra viśvāsyukthyaḥ ||

Your heroism, hero, is to be glorified, by which, with single effort, you have acquired wealth; (wherewith) the (sacrificial) food of (every) solemn and constant (ceremony is provided); for all (the acts) you have performed, you, Indra, are he who is to be praised.

अरमयः सरपसस्तराय कं तुर्वीतये च वय्याय च स्रुतिम् । नीचा सन्तमुदनयः परावृजं प्रान्धं श्रोणं श्रवयन्त्सास्युक्थ्यः ॥

aramayaḥ sarapasastarāya kaṃ turvītaye ca vayyāya ca srutim | nīcā santamudanayaḥ parāvṛjaṃ prāndhaṃ śroṇaṃ śravayantsāsyukthyaḥ ||

You have provided a passage for the easy crossing of the flowing waters for Turvati and Vayya; rendering (yourself) renowned, you have uplifted the blind and lame Paravṛj from the lowliness (of affliction); you are he who is to be praised.

अस्मभ्यं तद्वसो दानाय राधः समर्थयस्व बहु ते वसव्यम् । इन्द्र यच्चित्रं श्रवस्या अनु द्यून्बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥

asmabhyaṃ tadvaso dānāya rādhaḥ samarthayasva bahu te vasavyam | indra yaccitraṃ śravasyā anu dyūnbṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ ||

Possessor of riches, exert your ability to bestow wealth upon us; for yours is great affluence; may you, Indra, be disposed to grant us exceeding abundance day by day, so that, blessed with worthy descendants, we may glorify you at (our) sacrifice.
