प्र ते महे विदथे शंसिषं हरी प्र ते वन्वे वनुषो हर्यतं मदम् । घृतं न यो हरिभिश्चारु सेचत आ त्वा विशन्तु हरिवर्पसं गिरः ॥

pra te mahe vidathe śaṃsiṣaṃ harī pra te vanve vanuṣo haryataṃ madam | ghṛtaṃ na yo haribhiścāru secata ā tvā viśantu harivarpasaṃ giraḥ ||

I glorified your bay horses, Indra, at the great sacrifice. I solicit the agreeable exhilaration of you, thedestroyer. May my praises attain to you, whose form is yellow, who, with your horses, shower (water) likebeautiful butter.

हरिं हि योनिमभि ये समस्वरन्हिन्वन्तो हरी दिव्यं यथा सदः । आ यं पृणन्ति हरिभिर्न धेनव इन्द्राय शूषं हरिवन्तमर्चत ॥

hariṃ hi yonimabhi ye samasvaranhinvanto harī divyaṃ yathā sadaḥ | ā yaṃ pṛṇanti haribhirna dhenava indrāya śūṣaṃ harivantamarcata ||

You, who have praised the horse, the seat of Indra, urging the horses so that (Indra may reach) thedivine assembly, do you worship the horse- possessing might of Indra, whom men delight with the golden-tintedSoma as kine (with their milk).

सो अस्य वज्रो हरितो य आयसो हरिर्निकामो हरिरा गभस्त्योः । द्युम्नी सुशिप्रो हरिमन्युसायक इन्द्रे नि रूपा हरिता मिमिक्षिरे ॥

so asya vajro harito ya āyaso harirnikāmo harirā gabhastyoḥ | dyumnī suśipro harimanyusāyaka indre ni rūpā haritā mimikṣire ||

That is his thunderbolt, yellow, made of iron, the destroyer (of foes), desirable, the destroyer (of foes),it is in his hands; he is) possessed of riches, handsome jawed, possessed of a shaft and anger which deestroys(his foes)-- many golden-tinted forms are mixed in Indra.

दिवि न केतुरधि धायि हर्यतो विव्यचद्वज्रो हरितो न रंह्या । तुददहिं हरिशिप्रो य आयसः सहस्रशोका अभवद्धरिम्भरः ॥

divi na keturadhi dhāyi haryato vivyacadvajro harito na raṃhyā | tudadahiṃ hariśipro ya āyasaḥ sahasraśokā abhavaddharimbharaḥ ||

He has been plural ced (by his worshippers) in the sky, like the banner (of light, the sun). His desirablebolt reaches (the foe) as the bay horses (of the sun reach their aim) through speed. The iron (thunderbolt), withyellow jaws, which smote Ahi, (he, Indra), lord of horses, shone with a thousand lustres.

त्वंत्वमहर्यथा उपस्तुतः पूर्वेभिरिन्द्र हरिकेश यज्वभिः । त्वं हर्यसि तव विश्वमुक्थ्यमसामि राधो हरिजात हर्यतम् ॥

tvaṃtvamaharyathā upastutaḥ pūrvebhirindra harikeśa yajvabhiḥ | tvaṃ haryasi tava viśvamukthyamasāmi rādho harijāta haryatam ||

Indra, with yellow locks, when praised by ancient worshippers, you did desire the oblation; you whoare manifested of a golden hue desire your universal praise, your peculiar and delightful (sacrificial) food.

ता वज्रिणं मन्दिनं स्तोम्यं मद इन्द्रं रथे वहतो हर्यता हरी । पुरूण्यस्मै सवनानि हर्यत इन्द्राय सोमा हरयो दधन्विरे ॥

tā vajriṇaṃ mandinaṃ stomyaṃ mada indraṃ rathe vahato haryatā harī | purūṇyasmai savanāni haryata indrāya somā harayo dadhanvire ||

These two delightful bay horses bring the thunderer, the rejoicing and laudable Indra, in his car to theexhilaration (of the Soma); for him the beloved one many libations of the yellow-tinted Soma are stored up.

अरं कामाय हरयो दधन्विरे स्थिराय हिन्वन्हरयो हरी तुरा । अर्वद्भिर्यो हरिभिर्जोषमीयते सो अस्य कामं हरिवन्तमानशे ॥

araṃ kāmāya harayo dadhanvire sthirāya hinvanharayo harī turā | arvadbhiryo haribhirjoṣamīyate so asya kāmaṃ harivantamānaśe ||

Yellow-tinted (Soma) is stored up sufficient to whet his desires, the yellow-tinted Soma urges his twoswift bay horses for the salwart (Indra). His (chariot) which rushes with spirited bay horses to the conflict, hasreached his desire (the sacrifice) in which the Soma is presented.

हरिश्मशारुर्हरिकेश आयसस्तुरस्पेये यो हरिपा अवर्धत । अर्वद्भिर्यो हरिभिर्वाजिनीवसुरति विश्वा दुरिता पारिषद्धरी ॥

hariśmaśārurharikeśa āyasasturaspeye yo haripā avardhata | arvadbhiryo haribhirvājinīvasurati viśvā duritā pāriṣaddharī ||

The yellow-bearded, yellow-haired, iron-hearted Indra, the drinker of the yellow (Soma), who has beeninvigorated by the Soma which has to be quickly quaffed, who is rich in sacrificial food through his swift bayhorses, may he drive his two bay horses safe through all difficulties.

स्रुवेव यस्य हरिणी विपेततुः शिप्रे वाजाय हरिणी दविध्वतः । प्र यत्कृते चमसे मर्मृजद्धरी पीत्वा मदस्य हर्यतस्यान्धसः ॥

sruveva yasya hariṇī vipetatuḥ śipre vājāya hariṇī davidhvataḥ | pra yatkṛte camase marmṛjaddharī pītvā madasya haryatasyāndhasaḥ ||

He whose bay horses alight (upon the Soma) like two ladies, whose yellow jaws tremble (witheagerness) for the sacrificial food, (is praised) when having drunk of the delicious exhilarating Soma in theprepared cup, he rubs down his bay horses.

उत स्म सद्म हर्यतस्य पस्त्योरत्यो न वाजं हरिवाँ अचिक्रदत् । मही चिद्धि धिषणाहर्यदोजसा बृहद्वयो दधिषे हर्यतश्चिदा ॥

uta sma sadma haryatasya pastyoratyo na vājaṃ harivā~ acikradat | mahī ciddhi dhiṣaṇāharyadojasā bṛhadvayo dadhiṣe haryataścidā ||

The dwelling of the gracious (Indra) is in heaven and earth; exhilarated by the Soma he rushesimpetuously as a charger to battle. The earnest prayer desires (Indra endowed) with might; you bestow amplefood on the devout (worshipper).

आ रोदसी हर्यमाणो महित्वा नव्यंनव्यं हर्यसि मन्म नु प्रियम् । प्र पस्त्यमसुर हर्यतं गोराविष्कृधि हरये सूर्याय ॥

ā rodasī haryamāṇo mahitvā navyaṃnavyaṃ haryasi manma nu priyam | pra pastyamasura haryataṃ gorāviṣkṛdhi haraye sūryāya ||

You (Indra) who are the object of desire (fill) heaven and earth with your greatness, you desire gratefulpraise ever new and new; O powerful one, make manifest the desirable dwelling of the water to the

आ त्वा हर्यन्तं प्रयुजो जनानां रथे वहन्तु हरिशिप्रमिन्द्र । पिबा यथा प्रतिभृतस्य मध्वो हर्यन्यज्ञं सधमादे दशोणिम् ॥

ā tvā haryantaṃ prayujo janānāṃ rathe vahantu hariśipramindra | pibā yathā pratibhṛtasya madhvo haryanyajñaṃ sadhamāde daśoṇim ||

Let your horses yoked to the chariot bring you, Indra, the yellow- jawed, desiring (the sacrifice), to (thevicinity) of the worshippers; when you, desiring the sacrifice, prepared by the ten fingers, drink of the collectedsweet-flavoured Soma, (let them bring you) to the battle.

अपाः पूर्वेषां हरिवः सुतानामथो इदं सवनं केवलं ते । ममद्धि सोमं मधुमन्तमिन्द्र सत्रा वृषञ्जठर आ वृषस्व ॥

apāḥ pūrveṣāṃ harivaḥ sutānāmatho idaṃ savanaṃ kevalaṃ te | mamaddhi somaṃ madhumantamindra satrā vṛṣañjaṭhara ā vṛṣasva ||

Lord of horses, you did drink of previous libations, this sacrifice is for you alone; exhilarate yourself.Indra with the sweet Soma; showerer of copious rain, shower it into your belly.
