[rv-10-8] • 9 श्लोकाः

प्र केतुना बृहता यात्यग्निरा रोदसी वृषभो रोरवीति । दिवश्चिदन्ताँ उपमाँ उदानऴपामुपस्थे महिषो ववर्ध ॥

pra ketunā bṛhatā yātyagnirā rodasī vṛṣabho roravīti | divaścidantā~ upamā~ udānaḻapāmupasthe mahiṣo vavardha ||

Agni traverses heaven and earth with a vast banner; he roars (like) a bull; he spreads aloft over theremote and proximate (regions) of the sky; mighty, he increases in the lap of the water.

मुमोद गर्भो वृषभः ककुद्मानस्रेमा वत्सः शिमीवाँ अरावीत् । स देवतात्युद्यतानि कृण्वन्त्स्वेषु क्षयेषु प्रथमो जिगाति ॥

mumoda garbho vṛṣabhaḥ kakudmānasremā vatsaḥ śimīvā~ arāvīt | sa devatātyudyatāni kṛṇvantsveṣu kṣayeṣu prathamo jigāti ||

THe embryo (of heaven and earth), the showerer (of benefits), the glorious, rejoices; the excellentchild (of morn and eve), the celebrator of holy rites calls aloud; assiduous in exertions at the worship of the gods,he moves chief in his own abodes.

आ यो मूर्धानं पित्रोररब्ध न्यध्वरे दधिरे सूरो अर्णः । अस्य पत्मन्नरुषीरश्वबुध्ना ऋतस्य योनौ तन्वो जुषन्त ॥

ā yo mūrdhānaṃ pitrorarabdha nyadhvare dadhire sūro arṇaḥ | asya patmannaruṣīraśvabudhnā ṛtasya yonau tanvo juṣanta ||

They have plural ced in the sacrifice the radiance of the powerful Agni, who seizes hold of the forehead ofhis parents, gratifying his cherished, radiant, and expanding limbs, in their course, in their chamber of sacrifice.

उषौषो हि वसो अग्रमेषि त्वं यमयोरभवो विभावा । ऋताय सप्त दधिषे पदानि जनयन्मित्रं तन्वे स्वायै ॥

uṣauṣo hi vaso agrameṣi tvaṃ yamayorabhavo vibhāvā | ṛtāya sapta dadhiṣe padāni janayanmitraṃ tanve svāyai ||

Opulent Agni, you precede dawn after dawn. You are the illuminator of the twin (day and night);engendering Mitra from your own person n, you retain seven plural ces for sacrifice.

भुवश्चक्षुर्मह ऋतस्य गोपा भुवो वरुणो यदृताय वेषि । भुवो अपां नपाज्जातवेदो भुवो दूतो यस्य हव्यं जुजोषः ॥

bhuvaścakṣurmaha ṛtasya gopā bhuvo varuṇo yadṛtāya veṣi | bhuvo apāṃ napājjātavedo bhuvo dūto yasya havyaṃ jujoṣaḥ ||

You are the eye, the protector of the great sacrifice; when you proceed to the rite, you are Varuṇa;you are the grandson of the waters, Jātavedas; you are the messenger (of him) whose oblation you enjoy.

भुवो यज्ञस्य रजसश्च नेता यत्रा नियुद्भिः सचसे शिवाभिः । दिवि मूर्धानं दधिषे स्वर्षां जिह्वामग्ने चकृषे हव्यवाहम् ॥

bhuvo yajñasya rajasaśca netā yatrā niyudbhiḥ sacase śivābhiḥ | divi mūrdhānaṃ dadhiṣe svarṣāṃ jihvāmagne cakṛṣe havyavāham ||

You are the leader of the sacrifice and sacrificial water to the plural ce in which you are associated withthe auspicious steeds of the wind; you sustain the all-enjoying (sun) as chief in heaven; you, Agni, make yourtongue the bearer of the oblation.

अस्य त्रितः क्रतुना वव्रे अन्तरिच्छन्धीतिं पितुरेवैः परस्य । सचस्यमानः पित्रोरुपस्थे जामि ब्रुवाण आयुधानि वेति ॥

asya tritaḥ kratunā vavre antaricchandhītiṃ piturevaiḥ parasya | sacasyamānaḥ pitrorupasthe jāmi bruvāṇa āyudhāni veti ||

Trita by (his own), desiring a share (of the sacrifice), for the sake of taking part in the exploit of thesupreme protector (of the world), chose (Indra as his friend); attended (by the priests) in the proximity of theparental heaven and earth, and reciting appropriate praise, he takes up his weapons.

स पित्र्याण्यायुधानि विद्वानिन्द्रेषित आप्त्यो अभ्ययुध्यत् । त्रिशीर्षाणं सप्तरश्मिं जघन्वान्त्वाष्ट्रस्य चिन्निः ससृजे त्रितो गाः ॥

sa pitryāṇyāyudhāni vidvānindreṣita āptyo abhyayudhyat | triśīrṣāṇaṃ saptaraśmiṃ jaghanvāntvāṣṭrasya cinniḥ sasṛje trito gāḥ ||

He, the son of the waters, incited by Indra, skilled in his paternal weapons, fought against (the enemy),and slew the seven-rayed, three-headed (asura); then Trita set free the cows of the son of Tvaṣṭā.

भूरीदिन्द्र उदिनक्षन्तमोजोऽवाभिनत्सत्पतिर्मन्यमानम् । त्वाष्ट्रस्य चिद्विश्वरूपस्य गोनामाचक्राणस्त्रीणि शीर्षा परा वर्क् ॥

bhūrīdindra udinakṣantamojo'vābhinatsatpatirmanyamānam | tvāṣṭrasya cidviśvarūpasya gonāmācakrāṇastrīṇi śīrṣā parā vark ||

Indra, the protector of the virtuous, crushed the arrogant (foe), attaining vast strenth; shouting, he cutoff the three heads of the multiform son of Tvaṣṭā (the lord) of cattle.
