[rv-10-73] • 11 श्लोकाः

जनिष्ठा उग्रः सहसे तुराय मन्द्र ओजिष्ठो बहुलाभिमानः । अवर्धन्निन्द्रं मरुतश्चिदत्र माता यद्वीरं दधनद्धनिष्ठा ॥

janiṣṭhā ugraḥ sahase turāya mandra ojiṣṭho bahulābhimānaḥ | avardhannindraṃ marutaścidatra mātā yadvīraṃ dadhanaddhaniṣṭhā ||

You have been born, (Indra), for strength, for slaying (enemies); powerful, adorable, most mighty,extremely proud; the Maruts animated Indra in the (Vṛtra-fight) when (his) sustaining mother sustained the hero.

द्रुहो निषत्ता पृशनी चिदेवैः पुरू शंसेन वावृधुष्ट इन्द्रम् । अभीवृतेव ता महापदेन ध्वान्तात्प्रपित्वादुदरन्त गर्भाः ॥

druho niṣattā pṛśanī cidevaiḥ purū śaṃsena vāvṛdhuṣṭa indram | abhīvṛteva tā mahāpadena dhvāntātprapitvādudaranta garbhāḥ ||

The material troop of (Indra) the injurer encamped around Indra, (accompanied) by the swift-moving(maruts); they animated him with abundant praise; like (cattle) penned up within a great stall, the embryonic(waters) issued from the (Vṛtra) who had arrived in the form of darkness.

ऋष्वा ते पादा प्र यज्जिगास्यवर्धन्वाजा उत ये चिदत्र । त्वमिन्द्र सालावृकान्त्सहस्रमासन्दधिषे अश्विना ववृत्याः ॥

ṛṣvā te pādā pra yajjigāsyavardhanvājā uta ye cidatra | tvamindra sālāvṛkāntsahasramāsandadhiṣe aśvinā vavṛtyāḥ ||

Vast, (Indra), are your feet; when you advance, the Vājas, and whatsoever (deities are) thereanimated you; you, Indra, hold a thousand jackals in yourmouth, may you bring back the Aśvins.

समना तूर्णिरुप यासि यज्ञमा नासत्या सख्याय वक्षि । वसाव्यामिन्द्र धारयः सहस्राश्विना शूर ददतुर्मघानि ॥

samanā tūrṇirupa yāsi yajñamā nāsatyā sakhyāya vakṣi | vasāvyāmindra dhārayaḥ sahasrāśvinā śūra dadaturmaghāni ||

Hastening in battle you approach the sacrifice; you bring the two Nāsatyās to friendship (with us);you, Indra, possess a heap of treasures, thousands (in numbers); the Aśvins, hero, gave us riches.

मन्दमान ऋतादधि प्रजायै सखिभिरिन्द्र इषिरेभिरर्थम् । आभिर्हि माया उप दस्युमागान्मिहः प्र तम्रा अवपत्तमांसि ॥

mandamāna ṛtādadhi prajāyai sakhibhirindra iṣirebhirartham | ābhirhi māyā upa dasyumāgānmihaḥ pra tamrā avapattamāṃsi ||

Indra rejoicing at the sacrifice accompanied by hisswift-moving riends (the Maruts, gave) wealth to thepeople; he has come with them against the Dasyu to destroy his illusions; he has scattered the dark rain-cloudsand the gloom.

सनामाना चिद्ध्वसयो न्यस्मा अवाहन्निन्द्र उषसो यथानः । ऋष्वैरगच्छः सखिभिर्निकामैः साकं प्रतिष्ठा हृद्या जघन्थ ॥

sanāmānā ciddhvasayo nyasmā avāhannindra uṣaso yathānaḥ | ṛṣvairagacchaḥ sakhibhirnikāmaiḥ sākaṃ pratiṣṭhā hṛdyā jaghantha ||

You have expelled the two of the same name, you have destroyed the Vṛtra as (he destroyed) the cartof the dawn; you advance with the mighty friends (the Maruts), who were eager (to slay the Vṛtra); youdemolished his precious limbs.

त्वं जघन्थ नमुचिं मखस्युं दासं कृण्वान ऋषये विमायम् । त्वं चकर्थ मनवे स्योनान्पथो देवत्राञ्जसेव यानान् ॥

tvaṃ jaghantha namuciṃ makhasyuṃ dāsaṃ kṛṇvāna ṛṣaye vimāyam | tvaṃ cakartha manave syonānpatho devatrāñjaseva yānān ||

You have slain the slave Namuci endeavouring (to disturb) the sacrifice, making his illusionspowerless against the Ṛṣi; you have made easy for Manu the paths to the gods, so as (to make) the waysstraight.

त्वमेतानि पप्रिषे वि नामेशान इन्द्र दधिषे गभस्तौ । अनु त्वा देवाः शवसा मदन्त्युपरिबुध्नान्वनिनश्चकर्थ ॥

tvametāni papriṣe vi nāmeśāna indra dadhiṣe gabhastau | anu tvā devāḥ śavasā madantyuparibudhnānvaninaścakartha ||

You have filled these waters, you, Indra, who are the lord (of all) bear (the thunderbolt) in your hands;the gods glorify you (who are endowed) with strength; you have made the clouds with their roots upwards.

चक्रं यदस्याप्स्वा निषत्तमुतो तदस्मै मध्विच्चच्छद्यात् । पृथिव्यामतिषितं यदूधः पयो गोष्वदधा ओषधीषु ॥

cakraṃ yadasyāpsvā niṣattamuto tadasmai madhviccacchadyāt | pṛthivyāmatiṣitaṃ yadūdhaḥ payo goṣvadadhā oṣadhīṣu ||

When his thunderbolt rode everywhere in the firmament, it also subjugated the water to him; the waterwhich is let loose upon the earth puts milk into cows and herbs.

अश्वादियायेति यद्वदन्त्योजसो जातमुत मन्य एनम् । मन्योरियाय हर्म्येषु तस्थौ यतः प्रजज्ञ इन्द्रो अस्य वेद ॥

aśvādiyāyeti yadvadantyojaso jātamuta manya enam | manyoriyāya harmyeṣu tasthau yataḥ prajajña indro asya veda ||

Although (some) say he came from the horse (the sun), I know that he is the offspring of strength; hecame from wrath, he stands in the homes (of his enemies); Indra knows whence he was born.

वयः सुपर्णा उप सेदुरिन्द्रं प्रियमेधा ऋषयो नाधमानाः । अप ध्वान्तमूर्णुहि पूर्धि चक्षुर्मुमुग्ध्यस्मान्निधयेव बद्धान् ॥

vayaḥ suparṇā upa sedurindraṃ priyamedhā ṛṣayo nādhamānāḥ | apa dhvāntamūrṇuhi pūrdhi cakṣurmumugdhyasmānnidhayeva baddhān ||

The swift-moving well-flying (rays of the sun), living sacrifices, discerning (the future), deservingknowledge, invested Indra, dissipate the darkness, fill out the light; release us like men bound with a net.
