[rv-10-55] • 8 श्लोकाः

दूरे तन्नाम गुह्यं पराचैर्यत्त्वा भीते अह्वयेतां वयोधै । उदस्तभ्नाः पृथिवीं द्यामभीके भ्रातुः पुत्रान्मघवन्तित्विषाणः ॥

dūre tannāma guhyaṃ parācairyattvā bhīte ahvayetāṃ vayodhai | udastabhnāḥ pṛthivīṃ dyāmabhīke bhrātuḥ putrānmaghavantitviṣāṇaḥ ||

Your form held secret (by men) with averted faces, is far from here; when (heaven and earth) alarmed,called upon you for the sustenance (of the world), then you did fix in their proximity the heaven and earth,illumining, Maghavat, the sons, of (your) brother.

महत्तन्नाम गुह्यं पुरुस्पृग्येन भूतं जनयो येन भव्यम् । प्रत्नं जातं ज्योतिर्यदस्य प्रियं प्रियाः समविशन्त पञ्च ॥

mahattannāma guhyaṃ puruspṛgyena bhūtaṃ janayo yena bhavyam | pratnaṃ jātaṃ jyotiryadasya priyaṃ priyāḥ samaviśanta pañca ||

That mighty mysterious form, desired of many, wherewith you have engendered the past, and(engender) the future, the ancient manifested light, the beloved of Indra, into which the five (orders of beings)delighted enter.

आ रोदसी अपृणादोत मध्यं पञ्च देवाँ ऋतुशः सप्तसप्त । चतुस्त्रिंशता पुरुधा वि चष्टे सरूपेण ज्योतिषा विव्रतेन ॥

ā rodasī apṛṇādota madhyaṃ pañca devā~ ṛtuśaḥ saptasapta | catustriṃśatā purudhā vi caṣṭe sarūpeṇa jyotiṣā vivratena ||

He has filled heaven and earth (with his ethereal form) as well as the mid-heaven; he contemplates invarious aspects the five orders of beings, the classes of seven in their seasons, with the thirty-four (deities),(endowed) with light of like nature, and with various functions.

यदुष औच्छः प्रथमा विभानामजनयो येन पुष्टस्य पुष्टम् । यत्ते जामित्वमवरं परस्या महन्महत्या असुरत्वमेकम् ॥

yaduṣa aucchaḥ prathamā vibhānāmajanayo yena puṣṭasya puṣṭam | yatte jāmitvamavaraṃ parasyā mahanmahatyā asuratvamekam ||

Since you, Uṣas, did shine forth the first of luminaries, whereby you did beget the nourishment ofnourishment (the Sun); unequalled is the mighty greatness of you who are mighty, since your relationship isdownwards (towards us), though you are stationed on high.

विधुं दद्राणं समने बहूनां युवानं सन्तं पलितो जगार । देवस्य पश्य काव्यं महित्वाद्या ममार स ह्यः समान ॥

vidhuṃ dadrāṇaṃ samane bahūnāṃ yuvānaṃ santaṃ palito jagāra | devasya paśya kāvyaṃ mahitvādyā mamāra sa hyaḥ samāna ||

The grey-haired has swallowed the warlike (man) the scatterer of many foes, in battle being young;behold the power of the deity (endowed) with might; he dies today, he is alive tomorrow.

शाक्मना शाको अरुणः सुपर्ण आ यो महः शूरः सनादनीऴः । यच्चिकेत सत्यमित्तन्न मोघं वसु स्पार्हमुत जेतोत दाता ॥

śākmanā śāko aruṇaḥ suparṇa ā yo mahaḥ śūraḥ sanādanīḻaḥ | yacciketa satyamittanna moghaṃ vasu spārhamuta jetota dātā ||

Vigorous with (innate) vigour, (comes) a purple-coloured bird, mighty, heroic, ancient, having no nest;that which he knows is truth, and is not vain; (he is) the conqueror and distributor of desirable wealth.

ऐभिर्ददे वृष्ण्या पौंस्यानि येभिरौक्षद्वृत्रहत्याय वज्री । ये कर्मणः क्रियमाणस्य मह्न ऋतेकर्ममुदजायन्त देवाः ॥

aibhirdade vṛṣṇyā pauṃsyāni yebhiraukṣadvṛtrahatyāya vajrī | ye karmaṇaḥ kriyamāṇasya mahna ṛtekarmamudajāyanta devāḥ ||

Indra bestows fertilizing energies (accompanied by these Maruts in whose company the thunderersends down showers in order to destroy sin; the deities who were born for giving rain (to assist) in the actperformed be great Indra.

युजा कर्माणि जनयन्विश्वौजा अशस्तिहा विश्वमनास्तुराषाट् । पीत्वी सोमस्य दिव आ वृधानः शूरो निर्युधाधमद्दस्यून् ॥

yujā karmāṇi janayanviśvaujā aśastihā viśvamanāsturāṣāṭ | pītvī somasya diva ā vṛdhānaḥ śūro niryudhādhamaddasyūn ||

Accomplishing his duty with their assistance, the all-powerful Indra, the destroyer of the wicked, theall-wise, the quick subduer of foes, descending from heaven, and quaffing the Soma, invogirated and a hero, hedemolishes the Dasyus with his thunderbolt.
