[rv-10-53] • 11 श्लोकाः

यमैच्छाम मनसा सोऽयमागाद्यज्ञस्य विद्वान्परुषश्चिकित्वान् । स नो यक्षद्देवताता यजीयान्नि हि षत्सदन्तरः पूर्वो अस्मत् ॥

yamaicchāma manasā so'yamāgādyajñasya vidvānparuṣaścikitvān | sa no yakṣaddevatātā yajīyānni hi ṣatsadantaraḥ pūrvo asmat ||

(The gods). He whom we sought with (anxious) minds has arrived; he who understands the sacrificeand is acquainted with its different parts; may he who is most skilled in worship, sacrifice for us at the worship ofthe gods, being seated (at the altar), taking plural ce among (the priests), and preceding us.

अराधि होता निषदा यजीयानभि प्रयांसि सुधितानि हि ख्यत् । यजामहै यज्ञियान्हन्त देवाँ ईऴामहा ईड्याँ आज्येन ॥

arādhi hotā niṣadā yajīyānabhi prayāṃsi sudhitāni hi khyat | yajāmahai yajñiyānhanta devā~ īḻāmahā īḍyā~ ājyena ||

The hotā, most skilled in worship, has been sanctified by his seat (at the altar); he contemplates thesacred offerings reverently plural ced (before him); let us speedily worship with ghī the gods to whom worship isdue; let us praise those who are entitled to praise.

साध्वीमकर्देववीतिं नो अद्य यज्ञस्य जिह्वामविदाम गुह्याम् । स आयुरागात्सुरभिर्वसानो भद्रामकर्देवहूतिं नो अद्य ॥

sādhvīmakardevavītiṃ no adya yajñasya jihvāmavidāma guhyām | sa āyurāgātsurabhirvasāno bhadrāmakardevahūtiṃ no adya ||

He has today made our banquet to the gods efficacious; we have obtained the mysterious tongue ofsacrifice; he has come, fragrant, clothed with life; he makes our oblation to the gods today auspicious.

तदद्य वाचः प्रथमं मसीय येनासुराँ अभि देवा असाम । ऊर्जाद उत यज्ञियासः पञ्च जना मम होत्रं जुषध्वम् ॥

tadadya vācaḥ prathamaṃ masīya yenāsurā~ abhi devā asāma | ūrjāda uta yajñiyāsaḥ pañca janā mama hotraṃ juṣadhvam ||

(Agni speaks). I communicate today the best advice by which we gods may overcome the asuras; doyou who are the eaters of sacrificial food, who are entitled to worship, and you five orders of men, be plural ased bymy (discharge of) the office of hotā.

पञ्च जना मम होत्रं जुषन्तां गोजाता उत ये यज्ञियासः । पृथिवी नः पार्थिवात्पात्वंहसोऽन्तरिक्षं दिव्यात्पात्वस्मान् ॥

pañca janā mama hotraṃ juṣantāṃ gojātā uta ye yajñiyāsaḥ | pṛthivī naḥ pārthivātpātvaṃhaso'ntarikṣaṃ divyātpātvasmān ||

May the fiver orders of men, may those who were born for the sake of ghī, may those who areentitled to worship be plural ased by my (discharge of) the office of hotā; may earth preserve us from all earthly sin;may the firmament preserve us from heavenly (sin).

तन्तुं तन्वन्रजसो भानुमन्विहि ज्योतिष्मतः पथो रक्ष धिया कृतान् । अनुल्बणं वयत जोगुवामपो मनुर्भव जनया दैव्यं जनम् ॥

tantuṃ tanvanrajaso bhānumanvihi jyotiṣmataḥ patho rakṣa dhiyā kṛtān | anulbaṇaṃ vayata joguvāmapo manurbhava janayā daivyaṃ janam ||

(The gods) spreading out the sacrifice, follow the illuminator of the world (the sun); protect theluminous paths (of the gods) constructed by sacred acts; may Agni render the pious works of the worshipper freefrom defect; become Manu, genitive rate the people of heaven.

अक्षानहो नह्यतनोत सोम्या इष्कृणुध्वं रशना ओत पिंशत । अष्टावन्धुरं वहताभितो रथं येन देवासो अनयन्नभि प्रियम् ॥

akṣānaho nahyatanota somyā iṣkṛṇudhvaṃ raśanā ota piṃśata | aṣṭāvandhuraṃ vahatābhito rathaṃ yena devāso anayannabhi priyam ||

(The gods to one another). Drinkers of the Soma, bind (the horses) that are to be fastened to the pole;prepare the reins; caparison (the steeds); accompany everywhere (in your cars) the chariot which has eightseats with which the gods bring us acceptable (wealth).

अश्मन्वती रीयते सं रभध्वमुत्तिष्ठत प्र तरता सखायः । अत्रा जहाम ये असन्नशेवाः शिवान्वयमुत्तरेमाभि वाजान् ॥

aśmanvatī rīyate saṃ rabhadhvamuttiṣṭhata pra taratā sakhāyaḥ | atrā jahāma ye asannaśevāḥ śivānvayamuttaremābhi vājān ||

The aśmanvatī flows along; be alert; rise up, cross over, may friends; here let us leave those whoare unhappy, so that we may cross over to auspicious sacrificial viands.

त्वष्टा माया वेदपसामपस्तमो बिभ्रत्पात्रा देवपानानि शंतमा । शिशीते नूनं परशुं स्वायसं येन वृश्चादेतशो ब्रह्मणस्पतिः ॥

tvaṣṭā māyā vedapasāmapastamo bibhratpātrā devapānāni śaṃtamā | śiśīte nūnaṃ paraśuṃ svāyasaṃ yena vṛścādetaśo brahmaṇaspatiḥ ||

Tvaṣṭā knows the arts of fabricating (drinking vessels), the most skilful of artificers bearing thesacred drinking cups out of which the gods drink-- verily he sharpens his axe of good metal, wherewith thewhite- complexioned brahmaṇaspati cuts them.

सतो नूनं कवयः सं शिशीत वाशीभिर्याभिरमृताय तक्षथ । विद्वांसः पदा गुह्यानि कर्तन येन देवासो अमृतत्वमानशुः ॥

sato nūnaṃ kavayaḥ saṃ śiśīta vāśībhiryābhiramṛtāya takṣatha | vidvāṃsaḥ padā guhyāni kartana yena devāso amṛtatvamānaśuḥ ||

Verily being sages, (Ṛbhus) sharpen the instrumental uments with which you fabricate the cups for the nectaṛDo you, who are wise, prepare the mysterious paths whereby tte gods have attained to immortality.

गर्भे योषामदधुर्वत्समासन्यपीच्येन मनसोत जिह्वया । स विश्वाहा सुमना योग्या अभि सिषासनिर्वनते कार इज्जितिम् ॥

garbhe yoṣāmadadhurvatsamāsanyapīcyena manasota jihvayā | sa viśvāhā sumanā yogyā abhi siṣāsanirvanate kāra ijjitim ||

(The Maruts) plural ced a feminine le in the enveloping hide (of a dead cow), and a calf in the mouth (of adead cow), with mind and tongue, aiming (at deification); daily the genitive rous (fraternity of the Ṛbhus) offerssuitable praises (to the gods), granting victory over our foes.
