[rv-10-5] • 7 श्लोकाः

एकः समुद्रो धरुणो रयीणामस्मद्धृदो भूरिजन्मा वि चष्टे । सिषक्त्यूधर्निण्योरुपस्थ उत्सस्य मध्ये निहितं पदं वेः ॥

ekaḥ samudro dharuṇo rayīṇāmasmaddhṛdo bhūrijanmā vi caṣṭe | siṣaktyūdharniṇyorupastha utsasya madhye nihitaṃ padaṃ veḥ ||

Agni, the sole capacious ocean of riches who is of many births beholds our hearts; he waits on thecloud in the neighbourhood of the hidden (firmament); go, Agni, to the appointed plural ce in the midst of the waterṣ

समानं नीऴं वृषणो वसानाः सं जग्मिरे महिषा अर्वतीभिः । ऋतस्य पदं कवयो नि पान्ति गुहा नामानि दधिरे पराणि ॥

samānaṃ nīḻaṃ vṛṣaṇo vasānāḥ saṃ jagmire mahiṣā arvatībhiḥ | ṛtasya padaṃ kavayo ni pānti guhā nāmāni dadhire parāṇi ||

Great (worshippers), showerers (of oblations) enveloping with their hymns the common dark (fire),have associated (him) with his horses (to come to the sacrifice). Sages preserve (by oblations) the plural ce of thewater and support the divine rains in the vault (of heaven).

ऋतायिनी मायिनी सं दधाते मित्वा शिशुं जज्ञतुर्वर्धयन्ती । विश्वस्य नाभिं चरतो ध्रुवस्य कवेश्चित्तन्तुं मनसा वियन्तः ॥

ṛtāyinī māyinī saṃ dadhāte mitvā śiśuṃ jajñaturvardhayantī | viśvasya nābhiṃ carato dhruvasya kaveścittantuṃ manasā viyantaḥ ||

The two observers of truth, the two possessors of wisdom, (heaven and earth) sustain (this Agni);measuring the time, they have brought forth and reared a son; and (men), pondering in their minds on that navelof the universe, movable and immovable, the thread of the sage (Agni, are blessed with happiness).

ऋतस्य हि वर्तनयः सुजातमिषो वाजाय प्रदिवः सचन्ते । अधीवासं रोदसी वावसाने घृतैरन्नैर्वावृधाते मधूनाम् ॥

ṛtasya hi vartanayaḥ sujātamiṣo vājāya pradivaḥ sacante | adhīvāsaṃ rodasī vāvasāne ghṛtairannairvāvṛdhāte madhūnām ||

The ancient celebrators of the rite desiring (boons) wait on (Agni), rightly born, for the sake of food;the all-comprising heaven and earth cherish him, who abodes above the heavens, with the sacrificial butter andfood (produced) from the water.

सप्त स्वसॄररुषीर्वावशानो विद्वान्मध्व उज्जभारा दृशे कम् । अन्तर्येमे अन्तरिक्षे पुराजा इच्छन्वव्रिमविदत्पूषणस्य ॥

sapta svasṝraruṣīrvāvaśāno vidvānmadhva ujjabhārā dṛśe kam | antaryeme antarikṣe purājā icchanvavrimavidatpūṣaṇasya ||

The wise Agni glorified (by his worshippers) has from the sacrifice raised aloft, for the readymanifestation of (all things), the seven radiant sister (flames); which when formerly engendered he restrained inthe firmament, until desirous of (adorers) he bestowed form upon the region of the earth.

सप्त मर्यादाः कवयस्ततक्षुस्तासामेकामिदभ्यंहुरो गात् । आयोर्ह स्कम्भ उपमस्य नीऴे पथां विसर्गे धरुणेषु तस्थौ ॥

sapta maryādāḥ kavayastatakṣustāsāmekāmidabhyaṃhuro gāt | āyorha skambha upamasya nīḻe pathāṃ visarge dharuṇeṣu tasthau ||

The ise have established seven rules of conduct; he is a sinner who deviates from any one of theṃAgni is the obstructor of (that) man, he abides in the dwelling of his neighbour, in the region of the scattering ofthe rays, and in the recipient (waters).

असच्च सच्च परमे व्योमन्दक्षस्य जन्मन्नदितेरुपस्थे । अग्निर्ह नः प्रथमजा ऋतस्य पूर्व आयुनि वृषभश्च धेनुः ॥

asacca sacca parame vyomandakṣasya janmannaditerupasthe | agnirha naḥ prathamajā ṛtasya pūrva āyuni vṛṣabhaśca dhenuḥ ||

Non-existent, and existent (is Agni) in the supreme heaven, in the birth-plural ce of Dakṣa, and in thepresence of Aditi; Agni is elder born to us (who enjoy the fruit) of the sacrifice; in the olden time he was the bulland the cow.
