[rv-10-40] • 14 श्लोकाः

रथं यान्तं कुह को ह वां नरा प्रति द्युमन्तं सुविताय भूषति । प्रातर्यावाणं विभ्वं विशेविशे वस्तोर्वस्तोर्वहमानं धिया शमि ॥

rathaṃ yāntaṃ kuha ko ha vāṃ narā prati dyumantaṃ suvitāya bhūṣati | prātaryāvāṇaṃ vibhvaṃ viśeviśe vastorvastorvahamānaṃ dhiyā śami ||

What (worshipper), O leaderes of rites, and where (abiding) glorifies for his good, by his praise at therite, your radiant moving chariot, going (to the sacrifice) at dawn, all-pervading, and bearing (wealth) day afterday to one man after another?

कुह स्विद्दोषा कुह वस्तोरश्विना कुहाभिपित्वं करतः कुहोषतुः । को वां शयुत्रा विधवेव देवरं मर्यं न योषा कृणुते सधस्थ आ ॥

kuha sviddoṣā kuha vastoraśvinā kuhābhipitvaṃ karataḥ kuhoṣatuḥ | ko vāṃ śayutrā vidhaveva devaraṃ maryaṃ na yoṣā kṛṇute sadhastha ā ||

Where are you, Aśvins, by night? Where are you by day? Where do you sojourn? Where do youdwell? Who brings you into his presence in the same plural ce (of sacrifice) as on her couch a widow (brings) herhusband's brother, as a woman (brings) her husband (to her).

प्रातर्जरेथे जरणेव कापया वस्तोर्वस्तोर्यजता गच्छथो गृहम् । कस्य ध्वस्रा भवथः कस्य वा नरा राजपुत्रेव सवनाव गच्छथः ॥

prātarjarethe jaraṇeva kāpayā vastorvastoryajatā gacchatho gṛham | kasya dhvasrā bhavathaḥ kasya vā narā rājaputreva savanāva gacchathaḥ ||

Leaders (of rites), you are glorified at dawn like two ancient (monarchs) by the voice (of the caller)entitled to worship, you go day by day to the dwelling (of the worshipper); of whose (faults) are you thedestroyer? To whose oblations do you go like princes?

युवां मृगेव वारणा मृगण्यवो दोषा वस्तोर्हविषा नि ह्वयामहे । युवं होत्रामृतुथा जुह्वते नरेषं जनाय वहथः शुभस्पती ॥

yuvāṃ mṛgeva vāraṇā mṛgaṇyavo doṣā vastorhaviṣā ni hvayāmahe | yuvaṃ hotrāmṛtuthā juhvate nareṣaṃ janāya vahathaḥ śubhaspatī ||

Like perons hunting two wild elephants, we praise you, Aśvins, with oblations night and day; at all dueseasons, leaders (of rites), (the worshipper) offers you the oblation; do you, who are rulers of the shining (rain),bring food to mankind.

युवां ह घोषा पर्यश्विना यती राज्ञ ऊचे दुहिता पृच्छे वां नरा । भूतं मे अह्न उत भूतमक्तवेऽश्वावते रथिने शक्तमर्वते ॥

yuvāṃ ha ghoṣā paryaśvinā yatī rājña ūce duhitā pṛcche vāṃ narā | bhūtaṃ me ahna uta bhūtamaktave'śvāvate rathine śaktamarvate ||

Attending upon you, Aśvins, leaders (of rites), I, Ghoṣā, the daughter of king (Kakṣīvat), speak toyou and request you; be (present at) my (sacrifice) by day, and be (present) by night, be able, (to grant favour) tothe son of my brother, who has horses and a chariot.

युवं कवी ष्ठः पर्यश्विना रथं विशो न कुत्सो जरितुर्नशायथः । युवोर्ह मक्षा पर्यश्विना मध्वासा भरत निष्कृतं न योषणा ॥

yuvaṃ kavī ṣṭhaḥ paryaśvinā rathaṃ viśo na kutso jariturnaśāyathaḥ | yuvorha makṣā paryaśvinā madhvāsā bharata niṣkṛtaṃ na yoṣaṇā ||

Sage Aśvins, stand by your chariot; make it approach (the sacrifice) of the worshipper, as Kutsa(made his chariot approach) men, the fly carries your honey, Aśvins, in its mouth as a woman carries purified(honey).

युवं ह भुज्युं युवमश्विना वशं युवं शिञ्जारमुशनामुपारथुः । युवो ररावा परि सख्यमासते युवोरहमवसा सुम्नमा चके ॥

yuvaṃ ha bhujyuṃ yuvamaśvinā vaśaṃ yuvaṃ śiñjāramuśanāmupārathuḥ | yuvo rarāvā pari sakhyamāsate yuvorahamavasā sumnamā cake ||

You came, Aśvins, to the rescue of Bhujyu, you came to the rescue of Vaśa, you came to Śiñjārato (hear) his desirable (praise); the offerer of oblations besieges your friendship; and I desire happiness throughyour protection.

युवं ह कृशं युवमश्विना शयुं युवं विधन्तं विधवामुरुष्यथः । युवं सनिभ्यः स्तनयन्तमश्विनाप व्रजमूर्णुथः सप्तास्यम् ॥

yuvaṃ ha kṛśaṃ yuvamaśvinā śayuṃ yuvaṃ vidhantaṃ vidhavāmuruṣyathaḥ | yuvaṃ sanibhyaḥ stanayantamaśvināpa vrajamūrṇuthaḥ saptāsyam ||

Verily, Aśvins, you protect the feeble man; you protected Śayu; you protect him who worshipsaccording to rule, and the widow, (Vadhrimati); you set open, O Aśvins, for the donors of oblations theseven-mouthed thundering cloud.

जनिष्ट योषा पतयत्कनीनको वि चारुहन्वीरुधो दंसना अनु । आस्मै रीयन्ते निवनेव सिन्धवोऽस्मा अह्ने भवति तत्पतित्वनम् ॥

janiṣṭa yoṣā patayatkanīnako vi cāruhanvīrudho daṃsanā anu | āsmai rīyante nivaneva sindhavo'smā ahne bhavati tatpatitvanam ||

The bride, Aśvins, has been born, let the husband approach; may the plural nts spring up (for him) afterthe rain; for him may the streams flow as if from a declivity; may he invulnerable have the power of a husbandover her.

जीवं रुदन्ति वि मयन्ते अध्वरे दीर्घामनु प्रसितिं दीधियुर्नरः । वामं पितृभ्यो य इदं समेरिरे मयः पतिभ्यो जनयः परिष्वजे ॥

jīvaṃ rudanti vi mayante adhvare dīrghāmanu prasitiṃ dīdhiyurnaraḥ | vāmaṃ pitṛbhyo ya idaṃ samerire mayaḥ patibhyo janayaḥ pariṣvaje ||

The husbands who weep for the life (of their wives), make them sit down at the sacrifice, hold in a longembrace, (and) send the Pitṛs this desirable offspring, upon these husbands the wives (bestow) happiness inorder to be embraced.

न तस्य विद्म तदु षु प्र वोचत युवा ह यद्युवत्याः क्षेति योनिषु । प्रियोस्रियस्य वृषभस्य रेतिनो गृहं गमेमाश्विना तदुश्मसि ॥

na tasya vidma tadu ṣu pra vocata yuvā ha yadyuvatyāḥ kṣeti yoniṣu | priyosriyasya vṛṣabhasya retino gṛhaṃ gamemāśvinā taduśmasi ||

We do not know this (happiness) of his; do you, (Aśvins), clearly explain how it is that the young(husband) dwells in the bride's house; let us, Aśvins, go the dwelling of (my) dear youthful, vigorous, and manlyhusband; this is our desire.

आ वामगन्त्सुमतिर्वाजिनीवसू न्यश्विना हृत्सु कामा अयंसत । अभूतं गोपा मिथुना शुभस्पती प्रिया अर्यम्णो दुर्याँ अशीमहि ॥

ā vāmagantsumatirvājinīvasū nyaśvinā hṛtsu kāmā ayaṃsata | abhūtaṃ gopā mithunā śubhaspatī priyā aryamṇo duryā~ aśīmahi ||

Aśvins, rich in food, lords of water, twin (associates), may your good will devolve (upon us), may thedesires (of our hearts) be attained; you have been my protectors; may we, (being) beloved, attain the habitationof a husband.

ता मन्दसाना मनुषो दुरोण आ धत्तं रयिं सहवीरं वचस्यवे । कृतं तीर्थं सुप्रपाणं शुभस्पती स्थाणुं पथेष्ठामप दुर्मतिं हतम् ॥

tā mandasānā manuṣo duroṇa ā dhattaṃ rayiṃ sahavīraṃ vacasyave | kṛtaṃ tīrthaṃ suprapāṇaṃ śubhaspatī sthāṇuṃ patheṣṭhāmapa durmatiṃ hatam ||

Exulting, do you bestow riches, comprehending male progeny, in the house of my husband, on me,who desire to praise you; lords of waters, make the sacred ford good to drink; remove the tree that stands in theroad and the malevolent (enemy).

क्व स्विदद्य कतमास्वश्विना विक्षु दस्रा मादयेते शुभस्पती । क ईं नि येमे कतमस्य जग्मतुर्विप्रस्य वा यजमानस्य वा गृहम् ॥

kva svidadya katamāsvaśvinā vikṣu dasrā mādayete śubhaspatī | ka īṃ ni yeme katamasya jagmaturviprasya vā yajamānasya vā gṛham ||

Aśvins of goodly aspect, lords of water, in what plural ce, among what people, do you today delight? Whonow detains you? To the house of what sage or of what sacrificer, have you gone?
