[rv-10-39] • 14 श्लोकाः

यो वां परिज्मा सुवृदश्विना रथो दोषामुषासो हव्यो हविष्मता । शश्वत्तमासस्तमु वामिदं वयं पितुर्न नाम सुहवं हवामहे ॥

yo vāṃ parijmā suvṛdaśvinā ratho doṣāmuṣāso havyo haviṣmatā | śaśvattamāsastamu vāmidaṃ vayaṃ piturna nāma suhavaṃ havāmahe ||

We from very ancient times invoke, Aśvins, by a name as venerable as that of a father, this yourglorious chariot, which travels all around, which turns, well, and which is to be invoked morning and evening bythe worshipper.

चोदयतं सूनृताः पिन्वतं धिय उत्पुरंधीरीरयतं तदुश्मसि । यशसं भागं कृणुतं नो अश्विना सोमं न चारुं मघवत्सु नस्कृतम् ॥

codayataṃ sūnṛtāḥ pinvataṃ dhiya utpuraṃdhīrīrayataṃ taduśmasi | yaśasaṃ bhāgaṃ kṛṇutaṃ no aśvinā somaṃ na cāruṃ maghavatsu naskṛtam ||

Stimulate, Aśvins, our words of truth, perfect (our) sacred rites, and inspire (our) numerous facultires;this (is what) we wish; grant us a glorious portion (cf. wealth); put us like prosperous Soma among the affluent.

अमाजुरश्चिद्भवथो युवं भगोऽनाशोश्चिदवितारापमस्य चित् । अन्धस्य चिन्नासत्या कृशस्य चिद्युवामिदाहुर्भिषजा रुतस्य चित् ॥

amājuraścidbhavatho yuvaṃ bhago'nāśościdavitārāpamasya cit | andhasya cinnāsatyā kṛśasya cidyuvāmidāhurbhiṣajā rutasya cit ||

You, Nāsatyās, are the good fortune of a damsel growing old in (her father's) mansion; thepreservers of the famishing, the protectors of the object, of the blind, of the feeble, they call you the physicians ofthe sacrifice.

युवं च्यवानं सनयं यथा रथं पुनर्युवानं चरथाय तक्षथुः । निष्टौग्र्यमूहथुरद्भ्यस्परि विश्वेत्ता वां सवनेषु प्रवाच्या ॥

yuvaṃ cyavānaṃ sanayaṃ yathā rathaṃ punaryuvānaṃ carathāya takṣathuḥ | niṣṭaugryamūhathuradbhyaspari viśvettā vāṃ savaneṣu pravācyā ||

You made the aged Cyavana, when like a worn out chariot, again young and able to go; you bore theson of Tugra above the waters; all these your (exploits) are to be celebrated at our sacrifices.

पुराणा वां वीर्या प्र ब्रवा जनेऽथो हासथुर्भिषजा मयोभुवा । ता वां नु नव्याववसे करामहेऽयं नासत्या श्रदरिर्यथा दधत् ॥

purāṇā vāṃ vīryā pra bravā jane'tho hāsathurbhiṣajā mayobhuvā | tā vāṃ nu navyāvavase karāmahe'yaṃ nāsatyā śradariryathā dadhat ||

I proclaim, Aśvins, your ancient exploits among the people, for you were the physicians, the bestowersof felicity; we count you two worthy to be praised for (our) preservation; so that this worshipper Na-satyās, maybelieve (in you).

इयं वामह्वे शृणुतं मे अश्विना पुत्रायेव पितरा मह्यं शिक्षतम् । अनापिरज्ञा असजात्यामतिः पुरा तस्या अभिशस्तेरव स्पृतम् ॥

iyaṃ vāmahve śṛṇutaṃ me aśvinā putrāyeva pitarā mahyaṃ śikṣatam | anāpirajñā asajātyāmatiḥ purā tasyā abhiśasterava spṛtam ||

I here, (ghoṣā), invoke you. Here my (invocation), Aśvins, give me (wealth) as parents give to a son;before (it come) beyond the reach of (a course) that has no relatives, ungrateful, without kinsfolk, without belief,(pursues me); save me from that curse before (it reaches me).

युवं रथेन विमदाय शुन्ध्युवं न्यूहथुः पुरुमित्रस्य योषणाम् । युवं हवं वध्रिमत्या अगच्छतं युवं सुषुतिं चक्रथुः पुरंधये ॥

yuvaṃ rathena vimadāya śundhyuvaṃ nyūhathuḥ purumitrasya yoṣaṇām | yuvaṃ havaṃ vadhrimatyā agacchataṃ yuvaṃ suṣutiṃ cakrathuḥ puraṃdhaye ||

You brought, Śundhyu, the daughter of Purumitra to (her husband) Vimada; you came atVadharimati's invocation, and gave excellent offsprin to her who was full of wisdom.

युवं विप्रस्य जरणामुपेयुषः पुनः कलेरकृणुतं युवद्वयः । युवं वन्दनमृश्यदादुदूपथुर्युवं सद्यो विश्पलामेतवे कृथः ॥

yuvaṃ viprasya jaraṇāmupeyuṣaḥ punaḥ kalerakṛṇutaṃ yuvadvayaḥ | yuvaṃ vandanamṛśyadādudūpathuryuvaṃ sadyo viśpalāmetave kṛthaḥ ||

You made young again the life of the sage Kali, when approaching old age, you rescued Vandanafrom the well; you quickly enabled Viśapalā to walk.

युवं ह रेभं वृषणा गुहा हितमुदैरयतं ममृवांसमश्विना । युवमृबीसमुत तप्तमत्रय ओमन्वन्तं चक्रथुः सप्तवध्रये ॥

yuvaṃ ha rebhaṃ vṛṣaṇā guhā hitamudairayataṃ mamṛvāṃsamaśvinā | yuvamṛbīsamuta taptamatraya omanvantaṃ cakrathuḥ saptavadhraye ||

Aśvins, shedders of rain, you extricated Rebha when he was plural ced in a cave and was dying; youmade the heated fire-pit cool for Atri; you gave (liberty) to Saptavadhri.

युवं श्वेतं पेदवेऽश्विनाश्वं नवभिर्वाजैर्नवती च वाजिनम् । चर्कृत्यं ददथुर्द्रावयत्सखं भगं न नृभ्यो हव्यं मयोभुवम् ॥

yuvaṃ śvetaṃ pedave'śvināśvaṃ navabhirvājairnavatī ca vājinam | carkṛtyaṃ dadathurdrāvayatsakhaṃ bhagaṃ na nṛbhyo havyaṃ mayobhuvam ||

You gave, Aśvins, to Pedu a strong white horse with nine-and-ninety (other) steeds, (a horse), active(in combat), putting to flight the friends (of the foe), worthy to be invoked, a source of deligght, like wealth to meṇ

न तं राजानावदिते कुतश्चन नांहो अश्नोति दुरितं नकिर्भयम् । यमश्विना सुहवा रुद्रवर्तनी पुरोरथं कृणुथः पत्न्या सह ॥

na taṃ rājānāvadite kutaścana nāṃho aśnoti duritaṃ nakirbhayam | yamaśvinā suhavā rudravartanī purorathaṃ kṛṇuthaḥ patnyā saha ||

Lofty soverigns, worthy of invocation, going on roads which are praised in hymns, Aśvins, the manwhom with his wife you plural ce in front of (your) car, encounters not from any quarter wickedness, difficulty, ordanger.

आ तेन यातं मनसो जवीयसा रथं यं वामृभवश्चक्रुरश्विना । यस्य योगे दुहिता जायते दिव उभे अहनी सुदिने विवस्वतः ॥

ā tena yātaṃ manaso javīyasā rathaṃ yaṃ vāmṛbhavaścakruraśvinā | yasya yoge duhitā jāyate diva ubhe ahanī sudine vivasvataḥ ||

Come, Aśvins, with the chariot that is swifter than thought, which the Ribhus made for you; inconnection with which the daughter of heaven, (the dawn), is born and both the auspicious day and night fromVivasvat.

ता वर्तिर्यातं जयुषा वि पर्वतमपिन्वतं शयवे धेनुमश्विना । वृकस्य चिद्वर्तिकामन्तरास्याद्युवं शचीभिर्ग्रसिताममुञ्चतम् ॥

tā vartiryātaṃ jayuṣā vi parvatamapinvataṃ śayave dhenumaśvinā | vṛkasya cidvartikāmantarāsyādyuvaṃ śacībhirgrasitāmamuñcatam ||

Do you two, Aśvins, climb the path to the mountain with your triumphant chariot; you have renovatedfor Śayu (barren) cow; you liberated by your acts the quail that had been seized from the jaws of the wolf.

एतं वां स्तोममश्विनावकर्मातक्षाम भृगवो न रथम् । न्यमृक्षाम योषणां न मर्ये नित्यं न सूनुं तनयं दधानाः ॥

etaṃ vāṃ stomamaśvināvakarmātakṣāma bhṛgavo na ratham | nyamṛkṣāma yoṣaṇāṃ na marye nityaṃ na sūnuṃ tanayaṃ dadhānāḥ ||
