परेयिवांसं प्रवतो महीरनु बहुभ्यः पन्थामनुपस्पशानम् । वैवस्वतं संगमनं जनानां यमं राजानं हविषा दुवस्य ॥

pareyivāṃsaṃ pravato mahīranu bahubhyaḥ panthāmanupaspaśānam | vaivasvataṃ saṃgamanaṃ janānāṃ yamaṃ rājānaṃ haviṣā duvasya ||

Worship with oblations from Yama, king (of the Pitṛs), son of Vivasvat, the aggregation of mankind,who conducts those who are virtuous over the earth, and opens to many the path (of heaven).

यमो नो गातुं प्रथमो विवेद नैषा गव्यूतिरपभर्तवा उ । यत्रा नः पूर्वे पितरः परेयुरेना जज्ञानाः पथ्या अनु स्वाः ॥

yamo no gātuṃ prathamo viveda naiṣā gavyūtirapabhartavā u | yatrā naḥ pūrve pitaraḥ pareyurenā jajñānāḥ pathyā anu svāḥ ||

Yama, the chief (of all), knows our well-being; this pasture no one can take from us; by the road bywhich our forefathers have gone, all who are born (proceed) along the paths they have made for themselveṣ

मातली कव्यैर्यमो अङ्गिरोभिर्बृहस्पतिॠक्वभिर्वावृधानः । याँश्च देवा वावृधुर्ये च देवान्त्स्वाहान्ये स्वधयान्ये मदन्ति ॥

mātalī kavyairyamo aṅgirobhirbṛhaspatiṝkvabhirvāvṛdhānaḥ | yā~śca devā vāvṛdhurye ca devāntsvāhānye svadhayānye madanti ||

Mātalin prospers with the Kavyas; Yama with the Aṅgirasas; Bṛhaspati with the Ṛkvans; they whomthe gods augment, and they who augment the gods, these rejoice in Svāhā, those in the Svadhā.

इमं यम प्रस्तरमा हि सीदाङ्गिरोभिः पितृभिः संविदानः । आ त्वा मन्त्राः कविशस्ता वहन्त्वेना राजन्हविषा मादयस्व ॥

imaṃ yama prastaramā hi sīdāṅgirobhiḥ pitṛbhiḥ saṃvidānaḥ | ā tvā mantrāḥ kaviśastā vahantvenā rājanhaviṣā mādayasva ||

Yama, who are associated with the Aṅgirasa Pitṛs, sit down at this sacrifice; may the prayers recitedby the priests bring you here; be exhilarated, Sovereign, (Yam), by this oblation.

अङ्गिरोभिरा गहि यज्ञियेभिर्यम वैरूपैरिह मादयस्व । विवस्वन्तं हुवे यः पिता तेऽस्मिन्यज्ञे बर्हिष्या निषद्य ॥

aṅgirobhirā gahi yajñiyebhiryama vairūpairiha mādayasva | vivasvantaṃ huve yaḥ pitā te'sminyajñe barhiṣyā niṣadya ||

Come here, Yama, with the venerable multiform Aṅgirasas, and be exhilarated; I summon Vivasvat,who is your father, to this sacrifice; be seated on the sacred grass (delight the sacrificer).

अङ्गिरसो नः पितरो नवग्वा अथर्वाणो भृगवः सोम्यासः । तेषां वयं सुमतौ यज्ञियानामपि भद्रे सौमनसे स्याम ॥

aṅgiraso naḥ pitaro navagvā atharvāṇo bhṛgavaḥ somyāsaḥ | teṣāṃ vayaṃ sumatau yajñiyānāmapi bhadre saumanase syāma ||

The Aṅgirasas, the Atharvas, the Bhṛgus, who are entitled to the Soma, are our recent progenitors;may we ever have a plural ce in the favour of these venerable (pitrṣ); may we be ever held in their auspiciousregard.

प्रेहि प्रेहि पथिभिः पूर्व्येभिर्यत्रा नः पूर्वे पितरः परेयुः । उभा राजाना स्वधया मदन्ता यमं पश्यासि वरुणं च देवम् ॥

prehi prehi pathibhiḥ pūrvyebhiryatrā naḥ pūrve pitaraḥ pareyuḥ | ubhā rājānā svadhayā madantā yamaṃ paśyāsi varuṇaṃ ca devam ||

Depart, depart, by the former paths by which our forefathers have departed; there shall you behold thetwo monarchs Yama and the divine Varuṇa rejoicing in the Svadhā.

सं गच्छस्व पितृभिः सं यमेनेष्टापूर्तेन परमे व्योमन् । हित्वायावद्यं पुनरस्तमेहि सं गच्छस्व तन्वा सुवर्चाः ॥

saṃ gacchasva pitṛbhiḥ saṃ yameneṣṭāpūrtena parame vyoman | hitvāyāvadyaṃ punarastamehi saṃ gacchasva tanvā suvarcāḥ ||

Be united with the Pitṛs, with Yama, and with the fulfilment of your wishes in the highest heaven;discarding iniquity, return to your abode, and unite yourself to a luminous body.

अपेत वीत वि च सर्पतातोऽस्मा एतं पितरो लोकमक्रन् । अहोभिरद्भिरक्तुभिर्व्यक्तं यमो ददात्यवसानमस्मै ॥

apeta vīta vi ca sarpatāto'smā etaṃ pitaro lokamakran | ahobhiradbhiraktubhirvyaktaṃ yamo dadātyavasānamasmai ||

Depart from hence, begone, go far off, (evil spirits); the Pitṛs have assigned this plural ce to him, yamahas given him a plural ce of cremation consecrated by days, streams and nights. To him-- (the departedworshipper].

अति द्रव सारमेयौ श्वानौ चतुरक्षौ शबलौ साधुना पथा । अथा पितॄन्त्सुविदत्राँ उपेहि यमेन ये सधमादं मदन्ति ॥

ati drava sārameyau śvānau caturakṣau śabalau sādhunā pathā | athā pitṝntsuvidatrā~ upehi yamena ye sadhamādaṃ madanti ||

Pass by a secure path beyond the two spotted four-eyed dogs, the progeny of Saramā, and join thewise Pitṛs who rejoice joyfully with Yama.

यौ ते श्वानौ यम रक्षितारौ चतुरक्षौ पथिरक्षी नृचक्षसौ । ताभ्यामेनं परि देहि राजन्त्स्वस्ति चास्मा अनमीवं च धेहि ॥

yau te śvānau yama rakṣitārau caturakṣau pathirakṣī nṛcakṣasau | tābhyāmenaṃ pari dehi rājantsvasti cāsmā anamīvaṃ ca dhehi ||

Entrust him, O king, to your two dogs, which are your protectors, Yama, the four-eyed guardians of theroad, renowned by men, and grant him prosperity and health.

उरूणसावसुतृपा उदुम्बलौ यमस्य दूतौ चरतो जनाँ अनु । तावस्मभ्यं दृशये सूर्याय पुनर्दातामसुमद्येह भद्रम् ॥

urūṇasāvasutṛpā udumbalau yamasya dūtau carato janā~ anu | tāvasmabhyaṃ dṛśaye sūryāya punardātāmasumadyeha bhadram ||

The messengers of Yama, broad-nosed, and of exceeding strength, and satiating themselves with thelife (of mortals), hunt mankind; may they allow us this day a prosperous existence here, that we may look uponthe sun.

यमाय सोमं सुनुत यमाय जुहुता हविः । यमं ह यज्ञो गच्छत्यग्निदूतो अरंकृतः ॥

yamāya somaṃ sunuta yamāya juhutā haviḥ | yamaṃ ha yajño gacchatyagnidūto araṃkṛtaḥ ||

Pour out the Soma for Yama; to Yama offer the oblation, the decorated sacrifice of which Agni is themessenger proceeds to Yama.

यमाय घृतवद्धविर्जुहोत प्र च तिष्ठत । स नो देवेष्वा यमद्दीर्घमायुः प्र जीवसे ॥

yamāya ghṛtavaddhavirjuhota pra ca tiṣṭhata | sa no deveṣvā yamaddīrghamāyuḥ pra jīvase ||

Offer the oblation of clarified butter to Yama, and stand near (to the altar); it is he who among the godsgives us a long life to live.

यमाय मधुमत्तमं राज्ञे हव्यं जुहोतन । इदं नम ऋषिभ्यः पूर्वजेभ्यः पूर्वेभ्यः पथिकृद्भ्यः ॥

yamāya madhumattamaṃ rājñe havyaṃ juhotana | idaṃ nama ṛṣibhyaḥ pūrvajebhyaḥ pūrvebhyaḥ pathikṛdbhyaḥ ||

Offer to the royal Yama this most sweet oblation; (let) this our adoration (be addressed) to the ancientsages, the first followers of (virtuous) paths.

त्रिकद्रुकेभिः पतति षऴुर्वीरेकमिद्बृहत् । त्रिष्टुब्गायत्री छन्दांसि सर्वा ता यम आहिता ॥

trikadrukebhiḥ patati ṣaḻurvīrekamidbṛhat | triṣṭubgāyatrī chandāṃsi sarvā tā yama āhitā ||

(Yama) acquires the three trikadruka saacrifices; the six earths, the one great (moving world); thetriṣṭubh, gāyatrī, all the sacred metres converge in Yama.
