[rv-10-118] • 9 श्लोकाः

अग्ने हंसि न्यत्रिणं दीद्यन्मर्त्येष्वा । स्वे क्षये शुचिव्रत ॥

agne haṃsi nyatriṇaṃ dīdyanmartyeṣvā | sve kṣaye śucivrata ||

Agni, observer of purity, you destroy the devouring (gloom), shining among men in your won dwelling.

उत्तिष्ठसि स्वाहुतो घृतानि प्रति मोदसे । यत्त्वा स्रुचः समस्थिरन् ॥

uttiṣṭhasi svāhuto ghṛtāni prati modase | yattvā srucaḥ samasthiran ||

You spring up when piously invoked, you delight in the oblations when the ladles are brought nearyou.

स आहुतो वि रोचतेऽग्निरीऴेन्यो गिरा । स्रुचा प्रतीकमज्यते ॥

sa āhuto vi rocate'gnirīḻenyo girā | srucā pratīkamajyate ||

Agni, who is to be glorified with the voice (of praise), blazes up when invoked, he is sprinkled with theladle before (the other gods).

घृतेनाग्निः समज्यते मधुप्रतीक आहुतः । रोचमानो विभावसुः ॥

ghṛtenāgniḥ samajyate madhupratīka āhutaḥ | rocamāno vibhāvasuḥ ||

Agni is anointed with butter, having a face of honey, invoked, radiant, irradiating all.

जरमाणः समिध्यसे देवेभ्यो हव्यवाहन । तं त्वा हवन्त मर्त्याः ॥

jaramāṇaḥ samidhyase devebhyo havyavāhana | taṃ tvā havanta martyāḥ ||

Bearer of oblations, glorified by the worshippers, you are kindled for the gods; as such do mortalsinvoke you.

तं मर्ता अमर्त्यं घृतेनाग्निं सपर्यत । अदाभ्यं गृहपतिम् ॥

taṃ martā amartyaṃ ghṛtenāgniṃ saparyata | adābhyaṃ gṛhapatim ||

Mortals, worship with ghī the immortal Agni, the indestructible, the master of the mansion.

अदाभ्येन शोचिषाग्ने रक्षस्त्वं दह । गोपा ऋतस्य दीदिहि ॥

adābhyena śociṣāgne rakṣastvaṃ daha | gopā ṛtasya dīdihi ||

With your indestructible flame, Agni, do you consume the Rākṣasas; shine, the defender of thesacrifice.

स त्वमग्ने प्रतीकेन प्रत्योष यातुधान्यः । उरुक्षयेषु दीद्यत् ॥

sa tvamagne pratīkena pratyoṣa yātudhānyaḥ | urukṣayeṣu dīdyat ||

Do you, Agni, with your brightness, consume the feminine le fiends, shining in your outspread dwelllingṣurukṣayaḥ = occupying many mansions, i.e. the yajamānas].

तं त्वा गीर्भिरुरुक्षया हव्यवाहं समीधिरे । यजिष्ठं मानुषे जने ॥

taṃ tvā gīrbhirurukṣayā havyavāhaṃ samīdhire | yajiṣṭhaṃ mānuṣe jane ||

The masters of many mansions have, by their praises, kindled you, Agni, the bearer of oblations, whoare most adorable among human beings.
