[rv-1-7] • 10 श्लोकाः

इन्द्रमिद्गाथिनो बृहदिन्द्रमर्केभिरर्किणः । इन्द्रं वाणीरनूषत ॥

indramidgāthino bṛhadindramarkebhirarkiṇaḥ | indraṃ vāṇīranūṣata ||

The chanters (of the Soma) extol Indra with songs, the reciters of the Ṛk with prayers, the priests of the Yajuṣ, with texts.

इन्द्र इद्धर्योः सचा सम्मिश्ल आ वचोयुजा । इन्द्रो वज्री हिरण्ययः ॥

indra iddharyoḥ sacā sammiśla ā vacoyujā | indro vajrī hiraṇyayaḥ ||

Indra, the blender of all things, comes verily with his steeds that are harnessed at his word; Indra, the richly-decorated, the wielder of the thunderbolt.

इन्द्रो दीर्घाय चक्षस आ सूर्यं रोहयद्दिवि । वि गोभिरद्रिमैरयत् ॥

indro dīrghāya cakṣasa ā sūryaṃ rohayaddivi | vi gobhiradrimairayat ||

Indra, to render all things visible, elevated the sun in the sky, and charged the cloud with (abundant) waters.

इन्द्र वाजेषु नोऽव सहस्रप्रधनेषु च । उग्र उग्राभिरूतिभिः ॥

indra vājeṣu no'va sahasrapradhaneṣu ca | ugra ugrābhirūtibhiḥ ||

Invincible Indra, protect us in battles abounding in spoil, with insuperable defenceṣ

इन्द्रं वयं महाधन इन्द्रमर्भे हवामहे । युजं वृत्रेषु वज्रिणम् ॥

indraṃ vayaṃ mahādhana indramarbhe havāmahe | yujaṃ vṛtreṣu vajriṇam ||

We invoke Indra for great affluence, Indra for limited wealth; (our) ally, and wielder of the thunder-bolt against (our) enemies.

स नो वृषन्नमुं चरुं सत्रादावन्नपा वृधि । अस्मभ्यमप्रतिष्कुतः ॥

sa no vṛṣannamuṃ caruṃ satrādāvannapā vṛdhi | asmabhyamapratiṣkutaḥ ||

Shedder of rain, granter of all desires, set open this cloud. You are never uncompliant with our (requests).

तुञ्जेतुञ्जे य उत्तरे स्तोमा इन्द्रस्य वज्रिणः । न विन्धे अस्य सुष्टुतिम् ॥

tuñjetuñje ya uttare stomā indrasya vajriṇaḥ | na vindhe asya suṣṭutim ||

Whatever excellent praises are given to other dignities, they are (also the due) of Indra the thunderer; I do not know his fitting praise.

वृषा यूथेव वंसगः कृष्टीरियर्त्योजसा । ईशानो अप्रतिष्कुतः ॥

vṛṣā yūtheva vaṃsagaḥ kṛṣṭīriyartyojasā | īśāno apratiṣkutaḥ ||

The shedder of rain, the mighty lord, the always compliant, invests men with his strength, as a bull (defends) a herd of kine.

य एकश्चर्षणीनां वसूनामिरज्यति । इन्द्रः पञ्च क्षितीनाम् ॥

ya ekaścarṣaṇīnāṃ vasūnāmirajyati | indraḥ pañca kṣitīnām ||

Indra, who alone rules over men, over riches, and over the five (classes) of the dwellers on earth.

इन्द्रं वो विश्वतस्परि हवामहे जनेभ्यः । अस्माकमस्तु केवलः ॥

indraṃ vo viśvataspari havāmahe janebhyaḥ | asmākamastu kevalaḥ ||

We invoke for you, Indra, who is everywhere among men; may he be exclusively our own.
