[rv-1-186] • 11 श्लोकाः

आ न इऴाभिर्विदथे सुशस्ति विश्वानरः सविता देव एतु । अपि यथा युवानो मत्सथा नो विश्वं जगदभिपित्वे मनीषा ॥

ā na iḻābhirvidathe suśasti viśvānaraḥ savitā deva etu | api yathā yuvāno matsathā no viśvaṃ jagadabhipitve manīṣā ||

May the divine Savitā, the benefactor of all men, come benignantly to our solemnity, together with the divinities of earth, and do you, who are (always) young, willingly present at our sacrifice, exhilarate us, as (you exhilarate) the whole world.

आ नो विश्व आस्क्रा गमन्तु देवा मित्रो अर्यमा वरुणः सजोषाः । भुवन्यथा नो विश्वे वृधासः करन्त्सुषाहा विथुरं न शवः ॥

ā no viśva āskrā gamantu devā mitro aryamā varuṇaḥ sajoṣāḥ | bhuvanyathā no viśve vṛdhāsaḥ karantsuṣāhā vithuraṃ na śavaḥ ||

May all the triumphant gods, Mitra, Aryaman, Varuṇa equally well plural ased, come (to our rite); may they all be propitious to us; may they not leave us in want of food, after overcoming (our foes).

प्रेष्ठं वो अतिथिं गृणीषेऽग्निं शस्तिभिस्तुर्वणिः सजोषाः । असद्यथा नो वरुणः सुकीर्तिरिषश्च पर्षदरिगूर्तः सूरिः ॥

preṣṭhaṃ vo atithiṃ gṛṇīṣe'gniṃ śastibhisturvaṇiḥ sajoṣāḥ | asadyathā no varuṇaḥ sukīrtiriṣaśca parṣadarigūrtaḥ sūriḥ ||

I praise with hymns, (O gods), your best beloved guest, Agni, who is prompt (to partake of the oblation) and who is well plural ased along (with you); so that (thereby) Varuṇa, the possessor of renown, the subduer of foes, the animator (of men), may fill us with food.

उप व एषे नमसा जिगीषोषासानक्ता सुदुघेव धेनुः । समाने अहन्विमिमानो अर्कं विषुरूपे पयसि सस्मिन्नूधन् ॥

upa va eṣe namasā jigīṣoṣāsānaktā sudugheva dhenuḥ | samāne ahanvimimāno arkaṃ viṣurūpe payasi sasminnūdhan ||

I approach you, (deities), with reverence, night and day, in the hope of overcoming (sin), as (willingly), as a genitive tle cow (comes to be milked), mixing (for you) on the appropriate day the (sacrificial) food, (consisting) of multiform (preparations) of milk (genitive rated) from the same udder.

उत नोऽहिर्बुध्न्यो मयस्कः शिशुं न पिप्युषीव वेति सिन्धुः । येन नपातमपां जुनाम मनोजुवो वृषणो यं वहन्ति ॥

uta no'hirbudhnyo mayaskaḥ śiśuṃ na pipyuṣīva veti sindhuḥ | yena napātamapāṃ junāma manojuvo vṛṣaṇo yaṃ vahanti ||

May, Ahirbudhnya grant us happiness; may Sindhu come, nourishing us as a (cow her) calf, whereby we may propitiate the grandson of the waters, (Agni), whom the clouds, swift as thought, convey.

उत न ईं त्वष्टा गन्त्वच्छा स्मत्सूरिभिरभिपित्वे सजोषाः । आ वृत्रहेन्द्रश्चर्षणिप्रास्तुविष्टमो नरां न इह गम्याः ॥

uta na īṃ tvaṣṭā gantvacchā smatsūribhirabhipitve sajoṣāḥ | ā vṛtrahendraścarṣaṇiprāstuviṣṭamo narāṃ na iha gamyāḥ ||

Or may Tvaṣṭā come to this sacrifice, equally well plural ased with those who praise (him) at the excellent (rite) at which he is present; may the most potent Indra, the protector of man, the destroyer of Vṛtra, come to the (solemnity) of our leaders.

उत न ईं मतयोऽश्वयोगाः शिशुं न गावस्तरुणं रिहन्ति । तमीं गिरो जनयो न पत्नीः सुरभिष्टमं नरां नसन्त ॥

uta na īṃ matayo'śvayogāḥ śiśuṃ na gāvastaruṇaṃ rihanti | tamīṃ giro janayo na patnīḥ surabhiṣṭamaṃ narāṃ nasanta ||

For our minds, yoked together like horses tend to the ever youthful Indra, as cows to their calves; and the praises of men, (addressed) to him, are genitive rating most fragrant (fruit), as wives bear (children to their husbands).

उत न ईं मरुतो वृद्धसेनाः स्मद्रोदसी समनसः सदन्तु । पृषदश्वासोऽवनयो न रथा रिशादसो मित्रयुजो न देवाः ॥

uta na īṃ maruto vṛddhasenāḥ smadrodasī samanasaḥ sadantu | pṛṣadaśvāso'vanayo na rathā riśādaso mitrayujo na devāḥ ||

Or may the Maruts, being of one mind, come from heaven and earth (to the sacrifice); they who are a mighty host, who have parti-coloured steeds, who are like protecting chariots, and who are devourers of foes may they come like friendly deities.

प्र नु यदेषां महिना चिकित्रे प्र युञ्जते प्रयुजस्ते सुवृक्ति । अध यदेषां सुदिने न शरुर्विश्वमेरिणं प्रुषायन्त सेनाः ॥

pra nu yadeṣāṃ mahinā cikitre pra yuñjate prayujaste suvṛkti | adha yadeṣāṃ sudine na śarurviśvameriṇaṃ pruṣāyanta senāḥ ||

For, verily, their greatness is well known, (as) they diligently discharge their functions; by which their spot pours rain upon every arid soil, as light spreads (universally) on a fine day.

प्रो अश्विनाववसे कृणुध्वं प्र पूषणं स्वतवसो हि सन्ति । अद्वेषो विष्णुर्वात ऋभुक्षा अच्छा सुम्नाय ववृतीय देवान् ॥

pro aśvināvavase kṛṇudhvaṃ pra pūṣaṇaṃ svatavaso hi santi | adveṣo viṣṇurvāta ṛbhukṣā acchā sumnāya vavṛtīya devān ||

Propitiate the Aśvins and Pūṣan, for my protection; (propitiate) those (deities), who are of independent powers, as Viṣṇu, devoid of hatred, Vāyu and Ṛbhukṣin, and may I influence the gods to be present for my felicity.

इयं सा वो अस्मे दीधितिर्यजत्रा अपिप्राणी च सदनी च भूयाः । नि या देवेषु यतते वसूयुर्विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम् ॥

iyaṃ sā vo asme dīdhitiryajatrā apiprāṇī ca sadanī ca bhūyāḥ | ni yā deveṣu yatate vasūyurvidyāmeṣaṃ vṛjanaṃ jīradānum ||

Objects of admiration, may that wealth-abounding effulgence which manifests itself amongst the gods, give animation to our existence, and (permanence to) our dwellings; that we may (thence) obtain food, strength, and long life.
