[rv-1-182] • 8 श्लोकाः

अभूदिदं वयुनमो षु भूषता रथो वृषण्वान्मदता मनीषिणः । धियंजिन्वा धिष्ण्या विश्पलावसू दिवो नपाता सुकृते शुचिव्रता ॥

abhūdidaṃ vayunamo ṣu bhūṣatā ratho vṛṣaṇvānmadatā manīṣiṇaḥ | dhiyaṃjinvā dhiṣṇyā viśpalāvasū divo napātā sukṛte śucivratā ||

The information, sage (priests), has been received; be ready with your praises, for the (benefit) showering car (of the Aśvins has arrived); propitiate (the divinities), for they show favour to the doer of good works; they are entitled to praise, rich in benevolence to mankind the grandsons of heaven, and observers of holy rites.

इन्द्रतमा हि धिष्ण्या मरुत्तमा दस्रा दंसिष्ठा रथ्या रथीतमा । पूर्णं रथं वहेथे मध्व आचितं तेन दाश्वांसमुप याथो अश्विना ॥

indratamā hi dhiṣṇyā maruttamā dasrā daṃsiṣṭhā rathyā rathītamā | pūrṇaṃ rathaṃ vahethe madhva ācitaṃ tena dāśvāṃsamupa yātho aśvinā ||

Dasras, in truth most imperial, adorable, swifter than the winds, and eminent in good works, riders in a car, and most distinguished charioteers, bring hither your car, full heaped up with ambrosia, and with it come, Aśvins, to the donor (of the offering).

किमत्र दस्रा कृणुथः किमासाथे जनो यः कश्चिदहविर्महीयते । अति क्रमिष्टं जुरतं पणेरसुं ज्योतिर्विप्राय कृणुतं वचस्यवे ॥

kimatra dasrā kṛṇuthaḥ kimāsāthe jano yaḥ kaścidahavirmahīyate | ati kramiṣṭaṃ jurataṃ paṇerasuṃ jyotirviprāya kṛṇutaṃ vacasyave ||

What makes you here, Aśvins; why do you tarry, (where) any man who makes no oblation is respected; humble him; take away the life of the niggard; grant light to the pious man striving to speak your praise.

जम्भयतमभितो रायतः शुनो हतं मृधो विदथुस्तान्यश्विना । वाचंवाचं जरितू रत्निनीं कृतमुभा शंसं नासत्यावतं मम ॥

jambhayatamabhito rāyataḥ śuno hataṃ mṛdho vidathustānyaśvinā | vācaṃvācaṃ jaritū ratninīṃ kṛtamubhā śaṃsaṃ nāsatyāvataṃ mama ||

Annihilate, Aśvins, the dogs who bark at us; slay them warring (against us); you know their (means of harm); render every word of him who praises you affluent in precious (rewards); accept Nāsatyas, both of you, may praise.

युवमेतं चक्रथुः सिन्धुषु प्लवमात्मन्वन्तं पक्षिणं तौग्र्याय कम् । येन देवत्रा मनसा निरूहथुः सुपप्तनी पेतथुः क्षोदसो महः ॥

yuvametaṃ cakrathuḥ sindhuṣu plavamātmanvantaṃ pakṣiṇaṃ taugryāya kam | yena devatrā manasā nirūhathuḥ supaptanī petathuḥ kṣodaso mahaḥ ||

You constructed a plural asant, substantial winged bark, borne on the ocean waters for the son of Tugra, by which, with minddevoted to the gods, you bore him up, and quickly descending (from the sky), you made a path for him across the great waters.

अवविद्धं तौग्र्यमप्स्वन्तरनारम्भणे तमसि प्रविद्धम् । चतस्रो नावो जठलस्य जुष्टा उदश्विभ्यामिषिताः पारयन्ति ॥

avaviddhaṃ taugryamapsvantaranārambhaṇe tamasi praviddham | catasro nāvo jaṭhalasya juṣṭā udaśvibhyāmiṣitāḥ pārayanti ||

Four ships launched into the midst of the receptable (of the waters), sent by the Aśvins, brought safe to shore the son of Tugra, who had been cast headlong into the waters (by his foes), and plural nged in extricable darkness.

कः स्विद्वृक्षो निःष्ठितो मध्ये अर्णसो यं तौग्र्यो नाधितः पर्यषस्वजत् । पर्णा मृगस्य पतरोरिवारभ उदश्विना ऊहथुः श्रोमताय कम् ॥

kaḥ svidvṛkṣo niḥṣṭhito madhye arṇaso yaṃ taugryo nādhitaḥ paryaṣasvajat | parṇā mṛgasya patarorivārabha udaśvinā ūhathuḥ śromatāya kam ||

What was the tree that was stationed in the midst of the ocean, to which the supplicating son of Tugra clung; as leaves (are caught hold of) for the support of a falling animal; you, Aśvins, bore him up to safety, to your great renown.

तद्वां नरा नासत्यावनु ष्याद्यद्वां मानास उचथमवोचन् । अस्मादद्य सदसः सोम्यादा विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम् ॥

tadvāṃ narā nāsatyāvanu ṣyādyadvāṃ mānāsa ucathamavocan | asmādadya sadasaḥ somyādā vidyāmeṣaṃ vṛjanaṃ jīradānum ||

May the praise which your devout adorers have uttered be acceptable to you, Nāsatyas, leaders (in pious rites); be propitiated today by the libations of our assembly, that we may obtain food, strength and long life.
