ऋग्वेद 1.136 (श्लोक 7) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

प्र सु ज्येष्ठं निचिराभ्यां बृहन्नमो हव्यं मतिं भरता मृऴयद्भ्यां स्वादिष्ठं मृऴयद्भ्याम् । ता सम्राजा घृतासुती यज्ञेयज्ञ उपस्तुता । अथैनोः क्षत्रं न कुतश्चनाधृषे देवत्वं नू चिदाधृषे ॥

pra su jyeṣṭhaṃ nicirābhyāṃ bṛhannamo havyaṃ matiṃ bharatā mṛḻayadbhyāṃ svādiṣṭhaṃ mṛḻayadbhyām | tā samrājā ghṛtāsutī yajñeyajña upastutā | athainoḥ kṣatraṃ na kutaścanādhṛṣe devatvaṃ nū cidādhṛṣe ||

Offer most excellent and ample adoration, and reverential oblation, to those two deities who have existed from of old; who confer happiness (on their worshippers), and delight in most sweet (libations); for they are both imperial (sovereigns, in whose honour) oblations of butter are poured out (ghṛtamāsūyate ādīyate yābhyām tau tādṛśau; yadvā ghṛtamudakam vṛṣṭilakṣaṇam prasūyate sarvatrānujñāyate yābhyām tau), and who are glorified at every sacrifice, whence their might is not in any way to be opposed; their divinity is not to be resisted.

अदर्शि गातुरुरवे वरीयसी पन्था ऋतस्य समयंस्त रश्मिभिश्चक्षुर्भगस्य रश्मिभिः । द्युक्षं मित्रस्य सादनमर्यम्णो वरुणस्य च । अथा दधाते बृहदुक्थ्यं वय उपस्तुत्यं बृहद्वयः ॥

adarśi gātururave varīyasī panthā ṛtasya samayaṃsta raśmibhiścakṣurbhagasya raśmibhiḥ | dyukṣaṃ mitrasya sādanamaryamṇo varuṇasya ca | athā dadhāte bṛhadukthyaṃ vaya upastutyaṃ bṛhadvayaḥ ||

The most excellent dawn has been seen proceeding to the comprehensive (rite); the path of the revolving (sun) has been lighted up by (his) rays; the eyes of men (have been opened) by the rays of Bhaga; the brilliant mansion of Mitra, of Aryaman, of Varuṇa, (has been lighted up by his rays), and therefore do you two accept the commendable and copious oblation; the praise-worthy and copious oblation.

ज्योतिष्मतीमदितिं धारयत्क्षितिं स्वर्वतीमा सचेते दिवेदिवे जागृवांसा दिवेदिवे । ज्योतिष्मत्क्षत्रमाशाते आदित्या दानुनस्पती । मित्रस्तयोर्वरुणो यातयज्जनोऽर्यमा यातयज्जनः ॥

jyotiṣmatīmaditiṃ dhārayatkṣitiṃ svarvatīmā sacete divedive jāgṛvāṃsā divedive | jyotiṣmatkṣatramāśāte ādityā dānunaspatī | mitrastayorvaruṇo yātayajjano'ryamā yātayajjanaḥ ||

(Your worshipper) has prepared ground (for tha altar), free from defect, radiant (with sacrificial fire), and conferring heaven; come to it together every day, you who are vigilant; every day (at sacrifices) receive invigorated energy (by coming hither), sons of Aditi, lords of munificence; of those two, Mitra is the animator of mankind, and so is Varuṇa; Aryaman (likewise) is the animator of mankind.

अयं मित्राय वरुणाय शंतमः सोमो भूत्ववपानेष्वाभगो देवो देवेष्वाभगः । तं देवासो जुषेरत विश्वे अद्य सजोषसः । तथा राजाना करथो यदीमह ऋतावाना यदीमहे ॥

ayaṃ mitrāya varuṇāya śaṃtamaḥ somo bhūtvavapāneṣvābhago devo deveṣvābhagaḥ | taṃ devāso juṣerata viśve adya sajoṣasaḥ | tathā rājānā karatho yadīmaha ṛtāvānā yadīmahe ||

May this Soma be gratifying to Mitra and Varuṇa, to be enjoyed by them as they drink of it inclining downwards; a divine (beverage), fit to be enjoyed by the gods; may all the gods, well plural ased, today accept it; therefore, royal (deities), do as we request; you, who are ever truthful, do as we request.

यो मित्राय वरुणायाविधज्जनोऽनर्वाणं तं परि पातो अंहसो दाश्वांसं मर्तमंहसः । तमर्यमाभि रक्षत्यृजूयन्तमनु व्रतम् । उक्थैर्य एनोः परिभूषति व्रतं स्तोमैराभूषति व्रतम् ॥

yo mitrāya varuṇāyāvidhajjano'narvāṇaṃ taṃ pari pāto aṃhaso dāśvāṃsaṃ martamaṃhasaḥ | tamaryamābhi rakṣatyṛjūyantamanu vratam | ukthairya enoḥ paribhūṣati vrataṃ stomairābhūṣati vratam ||

Whatever individual offers adoration to Mitra and Varuṇa, do you preserve him entirely unharmed from sin; (preserve) from sin the mortal who presents you (with oblations); may Aryaman protect him who is sincere in his devotion, who offers worship addressed to both (Mitra and Varuṇa) with prayers; who offers worship with praises.

नमो दिवे बृहते रोदसीभ्यां मित्राय वोचं वरुणाय मीऴ्हुषे सुमृऴीकाय मीऴ्हुषे । इन्द्रमग्निमुप स्तुहि द्युक्षमर्यमणं भगम् । ज्योग्जीवन्तः प्रजया सचेमहि सोमस्योती सचेमहि ॥

namo dive bṛhate rodasībhyāṃ mitrāya vocaṃ varuṇāya mīḻhuṣe sumṛḻīkāya mīḻhuṣe | indramagnimupa stuhi dyukṣamaryamaṇaṃ bhagam | jyogjīvantaḥ prajayā sacemahi somasyotī sacemahi ||

I proclaim veneration to the mighty Sun, to heaven and earth, to Mitra, to the benevolent Varuṇa, to the conferer of happiness, the showerer of benefits. Praise Indra, Agni, the brilliant Aryaman, and Bhaga, so that enjoying long life, we may be blessed with progeny; we may be happy through the protecting virtues of the Soma.

ऊती देवानां वयमिन्द्रवन्तो मंसीमहि स्वयशसो मरुद्भिः । अग्निर्मित्रो वरुणः शर्म यंसन्तदश्याम मघवानो वयं च ॥

ūtī devānāṃ vayamindravanto maṃsīmahi svayaśaso marudbhiḥ | agnirmitro varuṇaḥ śarma yaṃsantadaśyāma maghavāno vayaṃ ca ||

Worshiping Indra, and favoured by the Maruts, may we rely upon the protection of the gods; and may we, affluent (through their bounty), enjoy the felicity which Agni, Mitra, and Varuṇa are bestowing (upon us).
