ऋग्वेद 1.131 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

इन्द्राय हि द्यौरसुरो अनम्नतेन्द्राय मही पृथिवी वरीमभिर्द्युम्नसाता वरीमभिः । इन्द्रं विश्वे सजोषसो देवासो दधिरे पुरः । इन्द्राय विश्वा सवनानि मानुषा रातानि सन्तु मानुषा ॥

indrāya hi dyaurasuro anamnatendrāya mahī pṛthivī varīmabhirdyumnasātā varīmabhiḥ | indraṃ viśve sajoṣaso devāso dadhire puraḥ | indrāya viśvā savanāni mānuṣā rātāni santu mānuṣā ||

To Indra heaven, that excludes the wicked, verilyhas bowed; to Indra the wide-spread earth (has offered homage) with acceptable (praises); with acceptablepraises (the worshipper has propitiated Indra) for the sake of food; all the gods well plural ased have given precedence to Indra; let all the sacrifices ofmen (be appropriated) to Indra; let all the offerings of menbe (presented to him).

विश्वेषु हि त्वा सवनेषु तुञ्जते समानमेकं वृषमण्यवः पृथक्स्वः सनिष्यवः पृथक् । तं त्वा नावं न पर्षणिं शूषस्य धुरि धीमहि । इन्द्रं न यज्ञैश्चितयन्त आयवः स्तोमेभिरिन्द्रमायवः ॥

viśveṣu hi tvā savaneṣu tuñjate samānamekaṃ vṛṣamaṇyavaḥ pṛthaksvaḥ saniṣyavaḥ pṛthak | taṃ tvā nāvaṃ na parṣaṇiṃ śūṣasya dhuri dhīmahi | indraṃ na yajñaiścitayanta āyavaḥ stomebhirindramāyavaḥ ||

Hoping to partake of your bounties, (your worshippers) hasten severally in every rite to (adore) you, who ask one and all; each severally seeking heaven. We meditate on you, the sustainer of our strength, like a boat that bears (passengers) across (a stream); mortals, indeed, knowing Indra, propitiate him with sacrifices; mortals (propitiate him) with hymns.

वि त्वा ततस्रे मिथुना अवस्यवो व्रजस्य साता गव्यस्य निःसृजः सक्षन्त इन्द्र निःसृजः । यद्गव्यन्ता द्वा जना स्वर्यन्ता समूहसि । आविष्करिक्रद्वृषणं सचाभुवं वज्रमिन्द्र सचाभुवम् ॥

vi tvā tatasre mithunā avasyavo vrajasya sātā gavyasya niḥsṛjaḥ sakṣanta indra niḥsṛjaḥ | yadgavyantā dvā janā svaryantā samūhasi | āviṣkarikradvṛṣaṇaṃ sacābhuvaṃ vajramindra sacābhuvam ||

The (married) couples; anxious to satisfy you, and presenting (oblations) together, celebrate (your worship), for the sake of (obtaining) herds of catle; presenting (you), Indra (oblations); you well know that these two person ns are desirous of cattle, are desirous of heaven, and (ou abide), displaying your thunderbolt, the showerer (of benefits), your constant companion, ever, Indra, associated (with you).

विदुष्टे अस्य वीर्यस्य पूरवः पुरो यदिन्द्र शारदीरवातिरः सासहानो अवातिरः । शासस्तमिन्द्र मर्त्यमयज्युं शवसस्पते । महीममुष्णाः पृथिवीमिमा अपो मन्दसान इमा अपः ॥

viduṣṭe asya vīryasya pūravaḥ puro yadindra śāradīravātiraḥ sāsahāno avātiraḥ | śāsastamindra martyamayajyuṃ śavasaspate | mahīmamuṣṇāḥ pṛthivīmimā apo mandasāna imā apaḥ ||

The ancients have have known of that your prowess, by which, Indra, you destroy the perennial cities (of the asuras); you have destroyed them, humiliating (their defenders). You have chastised, Lord of Strength, the mortal who offers not sacrifice; you have rescued this spacious earth and these waters; exulting, (you have recovered) these waters.

आदित्ते अस्य वीर्यस्य चर्किरन्मदेषु वृषन्नुशिजो यदाविथ सखीयतो यदाविथ । चकर्थ कारमेभ्यः पृतनासु प्रवन्तवे । ते अन्यामन्यां नद्यं सनिष्णत श्रवस्यन्तः सनिष्णत ॥

āditte asya vīryasya carkiranmadeṣu vṛṣannuśijo yadāvitha sakhīyato yadāvitha | cakartha kāramebhyaḥ pṛtanāsu pravantave | te anyāmanyāṃ nadyaṃ saniṣṇata śravasyantaḥ saniṣṇata ||

Thenceforth have your worshippers scattered (libations) for the augmentation of your vigour; that in your exhilaration, showerer, (of benefits), you may defend those who are solicitous (of your favour); that you may defend those who are desirous of (your) friendship; for them you have uttered a shout to encourage them in combats; from you they obtain many and many an enjoyment; anxious for food, they obtain it (from you).

उतो नो अस्या उषसो जुषेत ह्यर्कस्य बोधि हविषो हवीमभिः स्वर्षाता हवीमभिः । यदिन्द्र हन्तवे मृधो वृषा वज्रिञ्चिकेतसि । आ मे अस्य वेधसो नवीयसो मन्म श्रुधि नवीयसः ॥

uto no asyā uṣaso juṣeta hyarkasya bodhi haviṣo havīmabhiḥ svarṣātā havīmabhiḥ | yadindra hantave mṛdho vṛṣā vajriñciketasi | ā me asya vedhaso navīyaso manma śrudhi navīyasaḥ ||

Will (Indra) be present at this our morning rite; be appraised, (Indra), of the oblation offered with (due) observances; offered with (due) observances for the sake of (obtaining) heaven; and since, wielder of the thunderbolt, showerer (of benefits), you know how to destroy the malevolent, do you, therefore, listen to the acceptable (praise) of me, intelligent, though a novice; (hear it from me) a novice.

त्वं तमिन्द्र वावृधानो अस्मयुरमित्रयन्तं तुविजात मर्त्यं वज्रेण शूर मर्त्यम् । जहि यो नो अघायति शृणुष्व सुश्रवस्तमः । रिष्टं न यामन्नप भूतु दुर्मतिर्विश्वाप भूतु दुर्मतिः ॥

tvaṃ tamindra vāvṛdhāno asmayuramitrayantaṃ tuvijāta martyaṃ vajreṇa śūra martyam | jahi yo no aghāyati śṛṇuṣva suśravastamaḥ | riṣṭaṃ na yāmannapa bhūtu durmatirviśvāpa bhūtu durmatiḥ ||

Indra, endowed with many (excellences), do you, who are exalted (by our praises), and are well disposed towards us, (slay) the man who is unfriendly to us; (slay) swuch a man, hero, with your thunderbolt; kill him who sins against us; ever most prompt to hear, hear (us); let every ill-intent (towards us, such as alarms) a wearied (traveller) on the road, be counteracted; let every ill-intent be counteracted.
