ऋग्वेद 1.130 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

एन्द्र याह्युप नः परावतो नायमच्छा विदथानीव सत्पतिरस्तं राजेव सत्पतिः । हवामहे त्वा वयं प्रयस्वन्तः सुते सचा । पुत्रासो न पितरं वाजसातये मंहिष्ठं वाजसातये ॥

endra yāhyupa naḥ parāvato nāyamacchā vidathānīva satpatirastaṃ rājeva satpatiḥ | havāmahe tvā vayaṃ prayasvantaḥ sute sacā | putrāso na pitaraṃ vājasātaye maṃhiṣṭhaṃ vājasātaye ||

Come to us, Indra, from afar; not as this (fire) which is before us, (but) like the pious instrumental tutor of sacrifices, or like the royal lord of the constellations (when going) to his setting. Bearing oblations, we, along with (the priests), invoke you to accept the effused (Soma), as sons (invite) a father to partake of food; (we invoke) you, who are most entitled to reverence, to (accept of) the sacrificial viands.

पिबा सोममिन्द्र सुवानमद्रिभिः कोशेन सिक्तमवतं न वंसगस्तातृषाणो न वंसगः । मदाय हर्यताय ते तुविष्टमाय धायसे । आ त्वा यच्छन्तु हरितो न सूर्यमहा विश्वेव सूर्यम् ॥

pibā somamindra suvānamadribhiḥ kośena siktamavataṃ na vaṃsagastātṛṣāṇo na vaṃsagaḥ | madāya haryatāya te tuviṣṭamāya dhāyase | ā tvā yacchantu harito na sūryamahā viśveva sūryam ||

Drink, Indra, the Soma, that has been expressed by the stones, and spinkled with the sacred grass; as a thirsty ox or a thirsty man hastens to a well. (Drink) fo ryour exhilaration, for your invogoration, for your exceedingly great augmentation; let your horses bring you hither, as his steeds convey the sun; as they carry him (through heaven) day by day.

अविन्दद्दिवो निहितं गुहा निधिं वेर्न गर्भं परिवीतमश्मन्यनन्ते अन्तरश्मनि । व्रजं वज्री गवामिव सिषासन्नङ्गिरस्तमः । अपावृणोदिष इन्द्रः परीवृता द्वार इषः परीवृताः ॥

avindaddivo nihitaṃ guhā nidhiṃ verna garbhaṃ parivītamaśmanyanante antaraśmani | vrajaṃ vajrī gavāmiva siṣāsannaṅgirastamaḥ | apāvṛṇodiṣa indraḥ parīvṛtā dvāra iṣaḥ parīvṛtāḥ ||

He (Indra) found the (Soma) treasure (that had been brought) from heaven, and hidden like the nestlings of a bird in a rock; amidst (a pile of) vast rocks enclosed (by bushes); desiring to partake (of the beverage), the thunderer (found it), as the chief of the Aṅgirasas (discovered) the hiding-plural ce of the cows; he opened the doors of (the waters, the sources of) food, when shut up (in the clouds, the sources of) food, that were spread (over the earth).

दादृहाणो वज्रमिन्द्रो गभस्त्योः क्षद्मेव तिग्ममसनाय सं श्यदहिहत्याय सं श्यत् । संविव्यान ओजसा शवोभिरिन्द्र मज्मना । तष्टेव वृक्षं वनिनो नि वृश्चसि परश्वेव नि वृश्चसि ॥

dādṛhāṇo vajramindro gabhastyoḥ kṣadmeva tigmamasanāya saṃ śyadahihatyāya saṃ śyat | saṃvivyāna ojasā śavobhirindra majmanā | taṣṭeva vṛkṣaṃ vanino ni vṛścasi paraśveva ni vṛścasi ||

Grasping his sharp thunderbolt with both hands, Indra whetted it to hurl it (on his foes), like the water (of an imprecation); he whetted it for the destruction of Ahi. Indra, who are fully endowed with strength, with energy, with might, you cut (our enemies) to pieces, as a wood-cutter the trees of a forest; you cut them to pieces as if with a hatcheṭ

त्वं वृथा नद्य इन्द्र सर्तवेऽच्छा समुद्रमसृजो रथाँ इव वाजयतो रथाँ इव । इत ऊतीरयुञ्जत समानमर्थमक्षितम् । धेनूरिव मनवे विश्वदोहसो जनाय विश्वदोहसः ॥

tvaṃ vṛthā nadya indra sartave'cchā samudramasṛjo rathā~ iva vājayato rathā~ iva | ita ūtīrayuñjata samānamarthamakṣitam | dhenūriva manave viśvadohaso janāya viśvadohasaḥ ||

You have without effort created the river (that are) to flow to the sea, like chariots (bearing you to sacrifices), as those (construct) chariots who are desirous of (going to) battle; (the streams) flowing hither have gathered together their water for a common purpose, like the cows that yielded all things to Manu; that yield all things to man.

इमां ते वाचं वसूयन्त आयवो रथं न धीरः स्वपा अतक्षिषुः सुम्नाय त्वामतक्षिषुः । शुम्भन्तो जेन्यं यथा वाजेषु विप्र वाजिनम् । अत्यमिव शवसे सातये धना विश्वा धनानि सातये ॥

imāṃ te vācaṃ vasūyanta āyavo rathaṃ na dhīraḥ svapā atakṣiṣuḥ sumnāya tvāmatakṣiṣuḥ | śumbhanto jenyaṃ yathā vājeṣu vipra vājinam | atyamiva śavase sātaye dhanā viśvā dhanāni sātaye ||

Men who are desirous of wealth have recited this your praise, as a resolute and provident man (prepares) a chariot (for a journey); they have propitiated you for their good; glorifying you, sage Indra, as impetuous in conflicts, they have praised you (as men praise) a conqueror. We praise you for (the acquisition of) strength, wealth, and every kind of affluence; as (they command) a courser (for his good qualities) in battle.

भिनत्पुरो नवतिमिन्द्र पूरवे दिवोदासाय महि दाशुषे नृतो वज्रेण दाशुषे नृतो । अतिथिग्वाय शम्बरं गिरेरुग्रो अवाभरत् । महो धनानि दयमान ओजसा विश्वा धनान्योजसा ॥

bhinatpuro navatimindra pūrave divodāsāya mahi dāśuṣe nṛto vajreṇa dāśuṣe nṛto | atithigvāya śambaraṃ girerugro avābharat | maho dhanāni dayamāna ojasā viśvā dhanānyojasā ||

For Pur, the giver of offerings, for the mighty Divodāsa, you, Indra, the dancer (with delight in battle), have destroyed ninety cities; dancer (in battle), you have destroyed them with (your thunderbolt), for (the sake of) the giver of offerings. For (the sake of) Atithigva, the fierce (indra) hurled Śambara from off the mountain bestowing (uon the prince) immense treasure, (acquired) by (his) prowess; all kinds of wealth (acquired) by (his) prowess.

इन्द्रः समत्सु यजमानमार्यं प्रावद्विश्वेषु शतमूतिराजिषु स्वर्मीऴ्हेष्वाजिषु । मनवे शासदव्रतान्त्वचं कृष्णामरन्धयत् । दक्षन्न विश्वं ततृषाणमोषति न्यर्शसानमोषति ॥

indraḥ samatsu yajamānamāryaṃ prāvadviśveṣu śatamūtirājiṣu svarmīḻheṣvājiṣu | manave śāsadavratāntvacaṃ kṛṣṇāmarandhayat | dakṣanna viśvaṃ tatṛṣāṇamoṣati nyarśasānamoṣati ||

Indra, the manifold protector (of his worship) battles, defends his Ārya worshipper in all conflicts, in conflicts that confer heaven; he punished for (the benefit of) man the neglecters of religious rites; he tore off the black skin (of the aggressor); as if burning (with flame), he consumes the malignant; he utterly consumes him who delights in cruelty.

सूरश्चक्रं प्र वृहज्जात ओजसा प्रपित्वे वाचमरुणो मुषायतीशान आ मुषायति । उशना यत्परावतोऽजगन्नूतये कवे । सुम्नानि विश्वा मनुषेव तुर्वणिरहा विश्वेव तुर्वणिः ॥

sūraścakraṃ pra vṛhajjāta ojasā prapitve vācamaruṇo muṣāyatīśāna ā muṣāyati | uśanā yatparāvato'jagannūtaye kave | sumnāni viśvā manuṣeva turvaṇirahā viśveva turvaṇiḥ ||

Endowed with augmented vigour, he hurled (aginst the foes) the wheel (of the chariot) of the sun; and, ruddy of hue, deprived them of existence; he, the sovereign lord, deprived them of existence. As you, sage Indra, come from afar to the succour of Uśanā, so do you come quickly, bearing all good things (to us) every day.

स नो नव्येभिर्वृषकर्मन्नुक्थैः पुरां दर्तः पायुभिः पाहि शग्मैः । दिवोदासेभिरिन्द्र स्तवानो वावृधीथा अहोभिरिव द्यौः ॥

sa no navyebhirvṛṣakarmannukthaiḥ purāṃ dartaḥ pāyubhiḥ pāhi śagmaiḥ | divodāsebhirindra stavāno vāvṛdhīthā ahobhiriva dyauḥ ||

Showerer of benefits, destroyer of cities, propitiated by our new songs, reward us with gratifying blessings; glorified, Indra, by the descendants of Divodāsa, increse (in power), like the sun in (revolving) days.
