मध्वः सोमस्याश्विना मदाय प्रत्नो होता विवासते वाम् । बर्हिष्मती रातिर्विश्रिता गीरिषा यातं नासत्योप वाजैः ॥

madhvaḥ somasyāśvinā madāya pratno hotā vivāsate vām | barhiṣmatī rātirviśritā gīriṣā yātaṃ nāsatyopa vājaiḥ ||

Aśvins for your gratification by the plural asant Soma, your ancient worshipper adores you; the offering is poured upon the sacred gras, thehymn is ready (for repetition); come, Nāsatyas, with food and with vigour.

यो वामश्विना मनसो जवीयान्रथः स्वश्वो विश आजिगाति । येन गच्छथः सुकृतो दुरोणं तेन नरा वर्तिरस्मभ्यं यातम् ॥

yo vāmaśvinā manaso javīyānrathaḥ svaśvo viśa ājigāti | yena gacchathaḥ sukṛto duroṇaṃ tena narā vartirasmabhyaṃ yātam ||

With that car, Aśvins, which, rapid as thought, drawn by good horses, appears before men, and withwhich you repair to the dwelling of the virtuous, come, leaders of (sacrifice), to our abode.

ऋषिं नरावंहसः पाञ्चजन्यमृबीसादत्रिं मुञ्चथो गणेन । मिनन्ता दस्योरशिवस्य माया अनुपूर्वं वृषणा चोदयन्ता ॥

ṛṣiṃ narāvaṃhasaḥ pāñcajanyamṛbīsādatriṃ muñcatho gaṇena | minantā dasyoraśivasya māyā anupūrvaṃ vṛṣaṇā codayantā ||

You liberated, leaders (of rites), the sage Atri, who was venerated by the five classes of men from the wicked prison, together with his troop (of children), destroying his enemies and baffling, showerers (of benefits), the devices of the malignant Dasyus.

अश्वं न गूऴ्हमश्विना दुरेवैॠषिं नरा वृषणा रेभमप्सु । सं तं रिणीथो विप्रुतं दंसोभिर्न वां जूर्यन्ति पूर्व्या कृतानि ॥

aśvaṃ na gūḻhamaśvinā durevaiṝṣiṃ narā vṛṣaṇā rebhamapsu | saṃ taṃ riṇītho viprutaṃ daṃsobhirna vāṃ jūryanti pūrvyā kṛtāni ||

Leaders (of sacrifice), showerers (of benefits), you restored Rebha, cast by unassailable (enemies) into the water, and wounded, like a (sick) horse, by your (healing) skill; your ancient exploits do not fade (from recollection).

सुषुप्वांसं न निॠतेरुपस्थे सूर्यं न दस्रा तमसि क्षियन्तम् । शुभे रुक्मं न दर्शतं निखातमुदूपथुरश्विना वन्दनाय ॥

suṣupvāṃsaṃ na niṝterupasthe sūryaṃ na dasrā tamasi kṣiyantam | śubhe rukmaṃ na darśataṃ nikhātamudūpathuraśvinā vandanāya ||

You extricated, Dasras, the sage (Vandanā) cast into a well, like a handsome and splendid ornament designed for embellishment, and (lying) Aśvins, like one sleepin gon the lap of the earth or like the sun disappearing in darkness.

तद्वां नरा शंस्यं पज्रियेण कक्षीवता नासत्या परिज्मन् । शफादश्वस्य वाजिनो जनाय शतं कुम्भाँ असिञ्चतं मधूनाम् ॥

tadvāṃ narā śaṃsyaṃ pajriyeṇa kakṣīvatā nāsatyā parijman | śaphādaśvasya vājino janāya śataṃ kumbhā~ asiñcataṃ madhūnām ||

That (exploit) of yours, leaders (of sacrifice), is to be celebrated, Nāsatyas, by Kakṣīvat, of the race of Pajra, when you filled for the (expectant) man a hundred vases of sweet (liquors) from the hoof of your fleet horse.

युवं नरा स्तुवते कृष्णियाय विष्णाप्वं ददथुर्विश्वकाय । घोषायै चित्पितृषदे दुरोणे पतिं जूर्यन्त्या अश्विनावदत्तम् ॥

yuvaṃ narā stuvate kṛṣṇiyāya viṣṇāpvaṃ dadathurviśvakāya | ghoṣāyai citpitṛṣade duroṇe patiṃ jūryantyā aśvināvadattam ||

You restored, leaders (of sacrifices), Viṣṇāpu (his lost son) to Viśvaka, the son of Kṛṣṇa, when he praised you; you bestowed, Aśvins, a husband upon Ghoṣā, growing old and tarrying inher father's dwelling.

युवं श्यावाय रुशतीमदत्तं महः क्षोणस्याश्विना कण्वाय । प्रवाच्यं तद्वृषणा कृतं वां यन्नार्षदाय श्रवो अध्यधत्तम् ॥

yuvaṃ śyāvāya ruśatīmadattaṃ mahaḥ kṣoṇasyāśvinā kaṇvāya | pravācyaṃ tadvṛṣaṇā kṛtaṃ vāṃ yannārṣadāya śravo adhyadhattam ||

You gave, Aśvins, a lovely bride to Śyāvā; you gave sight to Kaṇva, unable to see his way; showerers (of benefits), the deed is to be glorified by which you gave hearing to the son of Nṛṣad.

पुरू वर्पांस्यश्विना दधाना नि पेदव ऊहथुराशुमश्वम् । सहस्रसां वाजिनमप्रतीतमहिहनं श्रवस्यं तरुत्रम् ॥

purū varpāṃsyaśvinā dadhānā ni pedava ūhathurāśumaśvam | sahasrasāṃ vājinamapratītamahihanaṃ śravasyaṃ tarutram ||

Aśvins, who assume many forms, you gave to Pedu a swift horse, the bringer of a thousand (treasures), powerful, irresistible, the destroyer of foes, the object of praise, the bearer (over dangers).

एतानि वां श्रवस्या सुदानू ब्रह्माङ्गूषं सदनं रोदस्योः । यद्वां पज्रासो अश्विना हवन्ते यातमिषा च विदुषे च वाजम् ॥

etāni vāṃ śravasyā sudānū brahmāṅgūṣaṃ sadanaṃ rodasyoḥ | yadvāṃ pajrāso aśvinā havante yātamiṣā ca viduṣe ca vājam ||

Liberal givers, these your exploits are to be celebrated, and the resounding prayer propitiates you while abiding in heaven and earth; when the descendants of Pajra invite you, Aśvins, come with food, and grant strength to the sage (who worships you).

सूनोर्मानेनाश्विना गृणाना वाजं विप्राय भुरणा रदन्ता । अगस्त्ये ब्रह्मणा वावृधाना सं विश्पलां नासत्यारिणीतम् ॥

sūnormānenāśvinā gṛṇānā vājaṃ viprāya bhuraṇā radantā | agastye brahmaṇā vāvṛdhānā saṃ viśpalāṃ nāsatyāriṇītam ||

Aśvins, glorified by the praises of the son (of the jar), and giving food, nourishers (of men), to the sage (Bharadvāja), exalted by Agastya withprayer, you restored Nāsatyas, Viṣpalā.

कुह यान्ता सुष्टुतिं काव्यस्य दिवो नपाता वृषणा शयुत्रा । हिरण्यस्येव कलशं निखातमुदूपथुर्दशमे अश्विनाहन् ॥

kuha yāntā suṣṭutiṃ kāvyasya divo napātā vṛṣaṇā śayutrā | hiraṇyasyeva kalaśaṃ nikhātamudūpathurdaśame aśvināhan ||

Wither were you going, sons of heaven, showerers (of benefits), when, on your way to the dwellingof Kāvya, (to receive his) adoration, you raised up (Rebha), Aśvins, on the tenth day, like a buried vessel full of gold?

युवं च्यवानमश्विना जरन्तं पुनर्युवानं चक्रथुः शचीभिः । युवो रथं दुहिता सूर्यस्य सह श्रिया नासत्यावृणीत ॥

yuvaṃ cyavānamaśvinā jarantaṃ punaryuvānaṃ cakrathuḥ śacībhiḥ | yuvo rathaṃ duhitā sūryasya saha śriyā nāsatyāvṛṇīta ||

You rendered, by your power, Aśvins, the aged Cyavana again young; the daughter of the sun, Nāsatyas, invested your chariot with beauty.

युवं तुग्राय पूर्व्येभिरेवैः पुनर्मन्यावभवतं युवाना । युवं भुज्युमर्णसो निः समुद्राद्विभिरूहथुॠज्रेभिरश्वैः ॥

yuvaṃ tugrāya pūrvyebhirevaiḥ punarmanyāvabhavataṃ yuvānā | yuvaṃ bhujyumarṇaso niḥ samudrādvibhirūhathuṝjrebhiraśvaiḥ ||

Dissipators of affliction, as you were praised with former praises by Tugra, so were you again adored (by him), when you brought Bhujyu safe from the tossing ocean with swift ships and rapid horses.

अजोहवीदश्विना तौग्र्यो वां प्रोऴ्हः समुद्रमव्यथिर्जगन्वान् । निष्टमूहथुः सुयुजा रथेन मनोजवसा वृषणा स्वस्ति ॥

ajohavīdaśvinā taugryo vāṃ proḻhaḥ samudramavyathirjaganvān | niṣṭamūhathuḥ suyujā rathena manojavasā vṛṣaṇā svasti ||

Th sun of Tugra, brought back by you, Aśvins, (to his father), glorified you whenhe ahd crossed the ocean in safety, and you bore him, showerers (of benefits), with your well-harnessed car, swift as thought, to safety.

अजोहवीदश्विना वर्तिका वामास्नो यत्सीममुञ्चतं वृकस्य । वि जयुषा ययथुः सान्वद्रेर्जातं विष्वाचो अहतं विषेण ॥

ajohavīdaśvinā vartikā vāmāsno yatsīmamuñcataṃ vṛkasya | vi jayuṣā yayathuḥ sānvadrerjātaṃ viṣvāco ahataṃ viṣeṇa ||

The quail glorified you, Aśvins, when you saved her from the mouth of the wolf; you carried off (Jāhuṣa) to the top of the mountain in your triumphant chariot; and slew the son of Viṣvāñc with a poisoned (arrow).

शतं मेषान्वृक्ये मामहानं तमः प्रणीतमशिवेन पित्रा । आक्षी ऋज्राश्वे अश्विनावधत्तं ज्योतिरन्धाय चक्रथुर्विचक्षे ॥

śataṃ meṣānvṛkye māmahānaṃ tamaḥ praṇītamaśivena pitrā | ākṣī ṛjrāśve aśvināvadhattaṃ jyotirandhāya cakrathurvicakṣe ||

You restored eyes to Ṛjrāśva, who, on presenting a hundred sheep to the she-wolf, had been condemned to darkness by his indignant father, and gave light to the blind, wherewith to behold all things.

शुनमन्धाय भरमह्वयत्सा वृकीरश्विना वृषणा नरेति । जारः कनीन इव चक्षदान ऋज्राश्वः शतमेकं च मेषान् ॥

śunamandhāya bharamahvayatsā vṛkīraśvinā vṛṣaṇā nareti | jāraḥ kanīna iva cakṣadāna ṛjrāśvaḥ śatamekaṃ ca meṣān ||

(Desiring) that the enjoyment (arising from the perfection) of the senses (should be restored to the blind), the she-wolf invoked you, (saying), "Aśvins, showerers (of benefits), leaders (of sacrifices), Ṛjrāśva, (lavish) as a youthful gallant, (has given me) a hundred and one sheep, cutting them into fragments".

मही वामूतिरश्विना मयोभूरुत स्रामं धिष्ण्या सं रिणीथः । अथा युवामिदह्वयत्पुरंधिरागच्छतं सीं वृषणाववोभिः ॥

mahī vāmūtiraśvinā mayobhūruta srāmaṃ dhiṣṇyā saṃ riṇīthaḥ | athā yuvāmidahvayatpuraṃdhirāgacchataṃ sīṃ vṛṣaṇāvavobhiḥ ||

Aśvins, your powerful protection is the source of happiness; worthy of laudation, you have made whole the maimed; therefore, has the intelligent (Ghoṣā) called upon you; showerers (of benefits) come hither with your succours.

अधेनुं दस्रा स्तर्यं विषक्तामपिन्वतं शयवे अश्विना गाम् । युवं शचीभिर्विमदाय जायां न्यूहथुः पुरुमित्रस्य योषाम् ॥

adhenuṃ dasrā staryaṃ viṣaktāmapinvataṃ śayave aśvinā gām | yuvaṃ śacībhirvimadāya jāyāṃ nyūhathuḥ purumitrasya yoṣām ||

Dasras, you fille dthe milkless, barren, and emaciated cow of Śayu with milk; you brought, by your powers, the daughter of Purumitra, as a wife, of Vimada.

यवं वृकेणाश्विना वपन्तेषं दुहन्ता मनुषाय दस्रा । अभि दस्युं बकुरेणा धमन्तोरु ज्योतिश्चक्रथुरार्याय ॥

yavaṃ vṛkeṇāśvinā vapanteṣaṃ duhantā manuṣāya dasrā | abhi dasyuṃ bakureṇā dhamantoru jyotiścakrathurāryāya ||

Aśvins, causing the barley to be sown (in the fields that had been prepared) by the plural ugh; milking (the clouds) for the sake of Manu; destroying the Dasyu with the thunderbolt; you have bestowed brilliant light upon the Ārya.

आथर्वणायाश्विना दधीचेऽश्व्यं शिरः प्रत्यैरयतम् । स वां मधु प्र वोचदृतायन्त्वाष्ट्रं यद्दस्रावपिकक्ष्यं वाम् ॥

ātharvaṇāyāśvinā dadhīce'śvyaṃ śiraḥ pratyairayatam | sa vāṃ madhu pra vocadṛtāyantvāṣṭraṃ yaddasrāvapikakṣyaṃ vām ||

You replaced, Aśvins, with the head of a horse, (the head of) Dadhyañc, the son of Atharvan, and, true to his promise, he revealed to you the mystic knowledge which he had learned from Tvaṣṭā, and which was as a ligature of the waist to you.

सदा कवी सुमतिमा चके वां विश्वा धियो अश्विना प्रावतं मे । अस्मे रयिं नासत्या बृहन्तमपत्यसाचं श्रुत्यं रराथाम् ॥

sadā kavī sumatimā cake vāṃ viśvā dhiyo aśvinā prāvataṃ me | asme rayiṃ nāsatyā bṛhantamapatyasācaṃ śrutyaṃ rarāthām ||

Sapient Aśvins, I ever solicit your favour; protect all my religious duties, and grant, Nāsatyas, abundant and excellent wealth, together with offsprings.

हिरण्यहस्तमश्विना रराणा पुत्रं नरा वध्रिमत्या अदत्तम् । त्रिधा ह श्यावमश्विना विकस्तमुज्जीवस ऐरयतं सुदानू ॥

hiraṇyahastamaśvinā rarāṇā putraṃ narā vadhrimatyā adattam | tridhā ha śyāvamaśvinā vikastamujjīvasa airayataṃ sudānū ||

Liberal Aśvins, leaders (of sacrifices), you gave to Vadhṛmati her son Hiraṇyahasta; bounteous Aśvins, you restored to life the triply-mutilated Śyāva.

एतानि वामश्विना वीर्याणि प्र पूर्व्याण्यायवोऽवोचन् । ब्रह्म कृण्वन्तो वृषणा युवभ्यां सुवीरासो विदथमा वदेम ॥

etāni vāmaśvinā vīryāṇi pra pūrvyāṇyāyavo'vocan | brahma kṛṇvanto vṛṣaṇā yuvabhyāṃ suvīrāso vidathamā vadema ||

These, your ancient exploits, Aśvins, our forefathers have celebrated, and we offer adoration to you, showerers (of benefits) repeating your praises, accompanied by our dependants.
