[rv-1-115] • 6 श्लोकाः

चित्रं देवानामुदगादनीकं चक्षुर्मित्रस्य वरुणस्याग्नेः । आप्रा द्यावापृथिवी अन्तरिक्षं सूर्य आत्मा जगतस्तस्थुषश्च ॥

citraṃ devānāmudagādanīkaṃ cakṣurmitrasya varuṇasyāgneḥ | āprā dyāvāpṛthivī antarikṣaṃ sūrya ātmā jagatastasthuṣaśca ||

Thewonderful hostof rays has risen; th eye of Mitra, Varuṇa and Agni; the sun, the soul of all that moves or is immoveable, has filled (with his glory) the heaven, the earth, and the firmament.

सूर्यो देवीमुषसं रोचमानां मर्यो न योषामभ्येति पश्चात् । यत्रा नरो देवयन्तो युगानि वितन्वते प्रति भद्राय भद्रम् ॥

sūryo devīmuṣasaṃ rocamānāṃ maryo na yoṣāmabhyeti paścāt | yatrā naro devayanto yugāni vitanvate prati bhadrāya bhadram ||

The sun follows the divine and brilliant Uṣā, as a man (follows a young and elegant) woman; at which season, pious men perform (the ceremonies established for) ages, worshipping the auspicious (sun), for the sake of good (reward).

भद्रा अश्वा हरितः सूर्यस्य चित्रा एतग्वा अनुमाद्यासः । नमस्यन्तो दिव आ पृष्ठमस्थुः परि द्यावापृथिवी यन्ति सद्यः ॥

bhadrā aśvā haritaḥ sūryasya citrā etagvā anumādyāsaḥ | namasyanto diva ā pṛṣṭhamasthuḥ pari dyāvāpṛthivī yanti sadyaḥ ||

The auspicious, swift horses of the sun, well-limbed, road-traversing, who merit to be plural ased with praise, revernced byus, have ascended to the summit of the sky, and quickly circumambulate earth and heaven.

तत्सूर्यस्य देवत्वं तन्महित्वं मध्या कर्तोर्विततं सं जभार । यदेदयुक्त हरितः सधस्थादाद्रात्री वासस्तनुते सिमस्मै ॥

tatsūryasya devatvaṃ tanmahitvaṃ madhyā kartorvitataṃ saṃ jabhāra | yadedayukta haritaḥ sadhasthādādrātrī vāsastanute simasmai ||

Such is the divinity, such is the majesty of the sun, that when he has set, he has withdrawn (into himself) the diffused (light which had been shed) upon the unfinished task; when he has unyoked his coursers from his car, then night extends the veiling darkness over all.

तन्मित्रस्य वरुणस्याभिचक्षे सूर्यो रूपं कृणुते द्योरुपस्थे । अनन्तमन्यद्रुशदस्य पाजः कृष्णमन्यद्धरितः सं भरन्ति ॥

tanmitrasya varuṇasyābhicakṣe sūryo rūpaṃ kṛṇute dyorupasthe | anantamanyadruśadasya pājaḥ kṛṣṇamanyaddharitaḥ saṃ bharanti ||

The sun, is the sight of Mitra and Varuṇa, displays his form (of brightness) in the middle of the heavens, and his rays extend, on one hand, his infinite and brilliant power, or, on the other, (by their departure), bring on the blackness of night.

अद्या देवा उदिता सूर्यस्य निरंहसः पिपृता निरवद्यात् । तन्नो मित्रो वरुणो मामहन्तामदितिः सिन्धुः पृथिवी उत द्यौः ॥

adyā devā uditā sūryasya niraṃhasaḥ pipṛtā niravadyāt | tanno mitro varuṇo māmahantāmaditiḥ sindhuḥ pṛthivī uta dyauḥ ||

This day, gods, with the rising of the sun, deliver us from heinous sin; and may Mitra, Varuṇa, Aditi--ocean, earth and heaven, be favourable to this (our prayer).
