शतद्रू

The पुराणिच् name of the Indian river now called सुत्लेज् . Grief-stricken over the death of his son, वसिष्ठ once jumped into this river, which, realising that the महर्षि was as powerful as fire, divided itself into many branches and flowed in various directions, and hence the river came to be known as शतद्रू . [mh-1-176-8 ] . Once in talking about sublime rivers to शिव , पार्वती mentioned this river also. [mh-13-146-18 ] . शतद्रू is also one of the ten rivers referred to in the ऋग्वेद .
