--- Origin --- Mark Title as "empty".
A story occurs in महाभारत , शल्य पर्व , Chapter 38 about the origin of this तीर्थ . It is given below:--
Once ब्रह्मा performed a sacrifice on the island of पुष्कर . All the देवस् (gods and goddesses) attended the sacrifice. Among the rivers, सरस्वती alone did not come at first. Then ब्रह्मा remembered सरस्वती and she appeared under the name सुप्रभा . Thus she appeared before the hermits who were doing penance in that place assuming seven different figures. From that day onwards the place became famous under the name सप्तसारस्वत . (See under Sarasvatī) .
