शङ्ख
[sankha] IAST: ŚAṄKHA
Considered to be a great, sublime treasure, found in कुबेर 's court. ब्रह्मदत्त , King of पाञ्चाल attained heaven as he used to give शङ्ख to good brahmins. [mh-12-234-1 ] • [mh-13-137-1 ] . शङ्ख appeared on earth, according to one belief, from the bones of शङ्खचूड . (For details see under Tulasī, Para 2)
A नाग born to कश्यपप्रजापति of कद्रू . The following information about it is from the महाभारत .
नारद once introduced शङ्ख to मातलि , charioteer of इन्द्र [mh-5-103-12 ] .
शङ्ख was one of the chief नागस् which came to lead the soul of बलभद्र to पाताल at the time of his death. [mh-16-4-7 ] .
Son of the विराट King.
He was present at the wedding of द्रौपदी in the company of his brother उत्तर and sister उत्तरा . [mh-1-31-16 ] .
He also came out to fight दुर्योधन and others when they lifted the cows of the विराट King. [mh-4-31-16 ] .
On the first day of the great war he clashed with भूरिश्रवस् . [mh-6-49-26 ] .
He was killed in fighting with द्रोण at कुरुक्षेत्र . [mh-6-5-17 ] .
After death he got absorbed in the विश्वदेवस् . [mh-18-5-17 ] .
A महर्षि , who was the elder brother of लिखितमहर्षि . Likhita once punished शङ्ख for plucking fruits from his garden without his permission. (For details see under Likhita) .
A केकय prince. He and his four brothers were महारथस् on the side of the पाण्डवस् . [mh-5-171-15 ] .
