The weapon of सुब्रह्मण्य is called शक्ति , and it was made by विश्वकर्मन् . विश्वकर्मन् once grilled सूर्य (sun) on his machine and reduced his glow. The glow thus released by विश्वकर्मन् fell on the earth and विश्वकर्मन् made with that glow the चक्र (disc) of विष्णु , the त्रिशूल (trident) of सिव the पुष्पक , aerial chariot of कुबेर and the शक्ति of सुब्रह्मण्य . (Viṣṇu Purāṇa, Part 3, Chapter 2) .
The sound ' श् ' means welfare or prosperity and ' क्ति ' prowess. Therefore शक्ति means she, who is the embodiment of prosperity and prowess or she, who grants prosperity and prowess. The definition of ' भगवती ' is, she who combines in herself knowledge affluence, wealth, reputation, power and the female organ. Therefore the word ' शक्ति ' may be taken to mean भगवती and पार्वती , and what are termed as भगवती , शक्ति , देवी , अम्बिका , पार्वती etc. are the manifestations of शक्ति , शिव 's spouse. This शक्ति exists fractionally in all देवस् . When, once upon a time the देवासुर war broke out the शक्तिस् of देवस् like ब्रह्मा emerged to help चण्डिका . The vehicle, ornaments, weapon etc. of each देव , his देवी also possessed. The शक्तिस् ( देवीस् ) of the देवस् appeared in the following manner. ब्रह्माणी , wife of ब्रह्मा , rode on the swan wearing beads around her neck and holding the water-vessel in her hands. She was followed by वैष्णवी विष्णु 's शक्ति on गरुड wearing yellow clothes and with the conch, disc, lotus etc. in her hands. शाङ्करी शिव 's शक्ति rode on the ox with the crescent moon and serpents as ornaments and holding in her hands the शूल . ' कौमारी ', सुब्रह्मण्य 's शक्ति rode on ऐरावत with शूल in hands. The शक्ति called ' वाराही in the form of a great boar rode carrying a corpse, नारसिंही ' शक्ति took the form of नरसिंह (half man and half lion). याम्या , यम 's शक्ति , rode on buffalo holding in her hands a long stick. शक्तिस् called कौबेरी and वारुणी took their respective forms and in this manner all the शक्तिस् came to the help of देवी . This sight pleased not only the देवस् , but the mother of the universe also. Along with them incarnated on earth शंकर , who gives ' शं ' (happiness) to the world and blessed चण्डिका on the battle-field (Devī Bhāgavata, 5th and 9th Skandhas) .
