A sacred place on the shores of the river सरयू . While going along the shores of this river with राम and लक्ष्मण , विश्वामित्र showed the boys this आश्रम and explained to them its importance. It was at this place that शिव burnt कामदेव (god of love) to death. कामदेव got the name अनङ्ग at this place. (Bāla Kāṇḍa, Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Sarga 23) .
