Of all the sides पूर्वदिशा is the most prominent.

The Sun rises in the east.

The साध्यस् come and do severe penance in the east at dusk.

The moon rises here.

The result of offering हव्य to the fire spreads to the east.

The daughters of दक्ष after becoming the wives of कश्यप delivered in the east.

Devas made Indra the king of the east.

इन्द्र and the देवस् did penance jointly in the east.

Because the देवस् accepted this side first ( पूर्व ) the side got the name पूर्वा .

The sun gives away as gifts the यजुर् मन्त्रस् at this place.

The devas drink the soma juice facing the east

वरुण once entered पाताल by the east and attained prosperity.

Indra selected the sacrificial animals at this place.
