पुनर्वसु आत्रेय

An ancient preceptor of आयुर्वेद . He was the Guru of अग्निदेव author of the book 'Agniveśatantra' which is the basis of चरकसंहिता and also of his classmates like Bhela.
पुनर्वसु was the son of the sage अत्रि who was one of the spiritual sons of ब्रह्मा . In support of this statement it can be found in many places in चरकु saṃhitā his name referred to as ' अत्रिसुत or अत्रिनन्दन '.
अत्रि maharṣi was also a learned preceptor of आयुर्वेद According to कश्यपसंहिता Devendra taught आयुर्वेद to कश्यप , वषिष्ठ , अत्रि and भृगु . The incomplete work ' आयुर्वेदचिकित्सातन्त्र ' by अत्रि was completed by पुनर्वसु according to अश्वघोष . पुनर्वसु 's mother's name was चन्द्रभागा . Getting knowledge in आयुर्वेद from his father and also from भरद्वाज , पुनर्वसु became an authority on आयुर्वेद . His important work is ' आत्रेयसंहिता '. There are about thirty prescriptions in his name. The prescriptions regarding ' बलातैल ' and ' अमृतादितैल ' are found in चरकसंहिता .
