पृश्निगर्भ
[prsnigarbha] IAST: PṚŚNIGARBHA
A name of महाविष्णु . There are two opinions in the पुराणस् regarding how विष्णु got this name.
In the early part of the period of स्वायम्भुव मनु the प्रजापति named सुतपस् and his wife पृश्नि did penance for twelve thousand divine years to get विष्णु as their son. As a result of that विष्णु was born in the womb of पृश्नि as पृश्निगर्भ . The name was suited for श्री कृष्ण the incarnation of विष्णु also. (Chapter 3, 10th Skandha, Bhāgavata) .
अन्न ( रिचे ), वेद , जल ( wअतेर् ) and अमृत ( नेच्तर् ) are called पृश्नि and so महाविष्णु ( कृष्ण ) who bears these inside is called पृश्निगर्भ . [mh-12-342-45 ]
