Chief of the स्त्रीराज्य (country of women) in the हिमालय . The पाण्डवस् conducted an अश्वमेधयाग after the great battle. It was अर्जुन who followed the sacrificial horse. Roaming about without anybody daring to tie it the horse reached स्त्रीराज्य and प्रमीला tied the horse. अर्जुन challenged her and in the fight that ensued प्रमीला defeated अर्जुन . At that time there was a voice from heaven which said " अर्जुन , you will never be able to take back the horse after defeating प्रमीला . So if you want to save the sacrificial horse, enter into a truce with her and make her your wife." अर्जुन took the advice and saved the horse after marrying प्रमीला .
