पृथु got two sons named अन्तर्धान and वादी who were very virtuous. A son named हविर्धान was born to अन्तर्धान of his wife शिखण्डिनी . धिषणा born of the family of अग्नि became the wife of हविर्धान and they got six sons named प्राचीनबर्हिस् , शुक्र , गय , कृष्ण , व्रज and अजिन . Of these प्राचीनबर्हिस् became a great प्रजापति . He carpetted the world with दर्भ grass with its head turned towards the east and thus got the name ( प्राची = east; बर्हिस् = bed of कुश grass) प्राचीनबर्हिस् . He performed great penance and married सवर्णा , daughter of the oceans. They got ten sons who were called प्रचेतसेस् and who were all masters of धनुर्वेद (archery). They all performed penance for ten thousand years lying submerged in water. ब्रह्मा persuaded प्राचीनबर्हिस् to request his sons to refrain from remaining unmarried. प्राचीनबर्हिस् informed his sons about ब्रह्मा 's wish. They sat in meditation in the ocean for ten thousand years as per directions from their father and sang songs in praise of विष्णु . महाविष्णु was pleased and he gave दर्शन (vision of god) to them on the surface of the ocean itself with the brilliance of blue lotus. प्रचेतसेस् went into ecstasy when they saw भगवान् coming to them riding on the back of गरुड and they bowed down in great devotion before him. महाविष्णु asked them what they wanted and they reported they wanted a boon for the progress and prosperity of the प्रजास् . Granting them the boon महाविष्णु disappeared and the प्रचेतसेस् went back to their father. (Chapter 14, Aṃśa 1, Viṣṇu Purāṇa) .
