नौबन्धन
[naubandhana] IAST: NAUBANDHANA
A peak of the हिमालय s. The peak came to be known by this name on account of the following cause. Once upon a time हिरण्यकशिपु stole the वेद s and with them hid in the bottom of the ocean. महाविष्णु incarnated himself as fish to restore the वेद s. The world then was submerged in water and the महर्षि s escaped in a boat attached to the horns of the मकर fish. On earth flood rose upto the peaks of the हिमालय s. The सप्तर्षि s attached their boat to a peak of the mountain and that came to be known as नौबन्धन . (nau = boat; bandha = tie). [mh-3-187-50 ] .
